What Do You Get for Free on Joana's Guides for Classic WoW?

Joana's Guides for Classic WoW offers a free addon and a small set of free web guides, but the full leveling routes are behind a paid plan. The free tier covers starter content only: levels 1–12 in Classic Era (Azeroth), 12–15 in Tirisfal, and 70–72 in WOTLK (Northrend). If you want the complete 1–80 leveling guides, you need either the monthly subscription or the one-time payment.

What's included for free

The site provides two ways to access free content: a downloadable addon and web-based guides.

Free addon

• A free addon that loads guides directly in-game
• Comes with starter guides for levels 1–12 and 70–72
• Described as "sleek" and backed by an experienced addon author

Free web guides

• Classic Era 1–12 (Azeroth)
• Classic Era 12–15 (Tirisfal)
• WOTLK 70–72 (Northrend)

These free guides can be viewed on the website and are pre-loaded into the free addon.

What requires payment

The premium guides cover the full leveling range and require a subscription or one-time purchase. Two options are listed:

Premium guide coverage includes:

• Classic Era 1–60 (Azeroth) — supports SoD, Hardcore, and Anniversary modes
• TBC 60–70 (Outland) — includes 12–20 Ghostlands & Bloodmyst Isle
• WOTLK 70–80 (Northrend)

Premium guides can be viewed on the website or loaded through the free addon.

Free vs. premium: what's the real difference

The free content is essentially a trial. You get the first 12 levels of Classic Era leveling, a small Tirisfal segment, and the first few levels of Northrend. That's enough to test whether the guide style works for you, but not enough to level a character to max.

The premium tier unlocks the full 1–80 path across all three expansions, plus support for Season of Discovery, Hardcore, and Anniversary modes in Classic Era.

Who the free content is for

• New players curious about the guide format — the free addon and starter guides let you see how the routing works before paying.
• Players leveling a fresh character to ~12 — the free Classic Era 1–12 guide covers the earliest zones.
• WOTLK players starting Northrend — the free 70–72 guide gives you the first steps into Northrend.

If you're planning to level well beyond those ranges, the free content won't be enough. The monthly plan at $5.95 (promotional price) is the lower-commitment way to try the full guides; the one-time $129.95 plan makes sense if you expect to use the guides across multiple characters or expansions over time.

Key things to know

• The free addon is separate from the premium subscription — you can download and use the addon without paying, but it only contains the starter guides.
• Premium guides are integrated into the same addon, so once you subscribe, the addon loads the full routes.
• The site has been helping players level quickly through WoW since 2006, and the guides are authored by Joana, the Vanilla world record holder who reached level 60 in record time in 2006.
• Pricing shows promotional rates ($5.95/month, $129.95 one-time) alongside original prices ($7.95/month, $149.95 one-time). Check the site for current pricing before purchasing.
