What End of Sale, End of Contract Renewals, and Last Day of Support Mean for Smartlook Customers
Updated
Smartlook is being wound down as a standalone product, and three dates define what you can and cannot do with an existing account. End of Sale (31 May 2026) means no new paid plans are sold. End of Contract Renewals (31 August 2026) means no renewals or expansions are sold from that date, and any paid subscription ends at the close of its current plan or its next renewal date. Last Day of Support (31 August 2027) means all remaining paid subscriptions are terminated by then. The platform itself is deactivated on 30 September 2027, when remaining customer data is securely deleted.
The three milestones side by side
| Milestone | Date | What it means for you |
|---|---|---|
| End of Sale (EoS) | 31 May 2026 | No new paid Smartlook plans can be purchased. |
| End of Contract Renewals | 31 August 2026 | No renewals or expansions for existing accounts are sold. Your paid subscription terminates at the end of its current plan or its next renewal date. |
| Last Day of Support (LDoS) | 31 August 2027 | All remaining paid subscriptions are terminated, including annual renewals initiated by 31 August 2026. |
| Platform Decommissioned | 30 September 2027 | Smartlook is deactivated, remaining customer data is securely deleted, and the platform is fully shut down. |
What each term changes in practice
End of Sale
This is the simplest of the three: after 31 May 2026 the paid product is closed to new buyers. If you are evaluating Smartlook today, the window to start a new paid subscription is limited by this date. The FAQ does not describe any replacement plan sold under the Smartlook name.
End of Contract Renewals
This is the milestone that matters most for existing customers, because it sets the outer bound of your access. From 31 August 2026, no renewals or expansions are sold, and any paid subscription terminates at the end of its current plan or its next renewal date. In practice, the length of your current term decides how much runway you have: a plan renewing before that date can still run its course, but nothing extends it afterward.
Last Day of Support
LDoS is the backstop. All paid subscriptions are terminated no later than 31 August 2027, including annual renewals initiated by 31 August 2026. After that point, no Smartlook subscription remains active, regardless of term length.
What happens to the product and your data
Smartlook is not disappearing without a successor. According to the company, the most valuable parts of the experience will continue to evolve within Digital Experience Analytics, part of the Splunk Observability Cloud. The platform decommission date of 30 September 2027 is when Smartlook is deactivated and all remaining customer data is securely deleted — so any recordings, events, funnels, heatmaps, behavior flows, or crash reports you want to keep need to be exported or migrated before that date, and realistically before your own subscription terminates.
A practical way to plan around the dates
- Find your renewal date. Your subscription ends at the close of the current plan or its next renewal date after 31 August 2026 — that is your effective cutoff, not the 2027 dates.
- Decide what data matters. Session recordings, funnel drop-off data, and crash reports are the assets most likely to be hard to reconstruct elsewhere. Plan exports while your account is still active.
- Map features to a successor. The FAQ points to Digital Experience Analytics within Splunk Observability Cloud as where Smartlook's capabilities continue. Check that the specific features you rely on — recordings, events, funnels, heatmaps, behavior flows, crash reports — are covered there before you commit.
- Treat 30 September 2027 as a hard stop. Anything not migrated or exported by then is deleted with the platform.
The main pitfall is assuming the 2027 dates apply to you. For most paying customers, the binding constraint is the renewal date that follows 31 August 2026, which can arrive well before Last Day of Support.
