What Events Does the Nanaimo Rhododendron Society List on Its Calendar?

Updated

The Nanaimo Rhododendron Society (NRS) lists three main kinds of events on its calendar: regular monthly meetings (often with a guest speaker), morning work parties at Hailey Grove, and special events such as a Christmas auction. The homepage shows an "Upcoming Events" list running from November 2026 into March 2027, with a link to a full calendar view. The events below are the ones published on the site; check the calendar link for any additions or changes before you plan to attend.

Regular Monthly Meetings

Regular meetings are listed in the evening, typically 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm, and are held at Beban Park, 2300 Bowen Road, in Nanaimo, according to the site. Some meetings are listed with a named speaker.

Date Time Event
November 12, 2026 7:00–9:00 pm Regular meeting
January 14, 2027 7:00–9:00 pm Regular meeting
February 11, 2027 7:00–9:00 pm Regular meeting with speaker Hunter Jarrett
March 11, 2027 7:00–9:00 pm Regular meeting with speaker Christine Quist

The site describes the society's purpose as introducing members and the public to rhododendrons through meetings, garden tours, and flower shows. The speaker listings suggest the meetings mix society business with educational talks, though the site does not give talk topics.

Hailey Grove Work Parties

Work parties are listed as morning sessions at Hailey Grove, generally starting at 9:00 am and ending between 11:30 am and noon. They appear roughly monthly in the published list.

Date Time
November 10, 2026 9:00–11:30 am
December 8, 2026 9:00 am–12:00 pm
January 12, 2027 9:00 am–12:00 pm
February 9, 2027 9:00 am–12:00 pm
March 9, 2027 9:00 am–12:00 pm

The site does not describe what the work involves or what to bring. If you plan to attend, ask the society directly through its meeting or Facebook page rather than assuming tools or tasks.

Special Events

The Christmas Auction is listed for December 3, 2026, 7:00–9:00 pm. It is the only special event named in the published list. The site does not state whether the auction is open to the public, whether bidding requires membership, or what is sold.

How to Confirm Details

  • Use the "View Calendar" link on the homepage for the full calendar, since the homepage list may not include everything.
  • The society is also on Facebook, which the site names as a contact channel.
  • Membership applications are handled at regular meetings, per the site, so a meeting is also a chance to ask about events in person.

Dates and times on the site extend well into 2027, so confirm closer to the date before travelling to Beban Park or Hailey Grove.
