What file formats does NanaZip support?
Updated
NanaZip opens and extracts everything its 7-Zip base handles, plus a set of extra formats that 7-Zip does not cover. The additions listed on the NanaZip site are Zstandard, Brotli, LZ4, LZ5, Lizard, Fast-LZMA2, WASM, Electron ASAR, .NET Single File Bundle, NSIS, ROMFS, ZealFS, UFS, UFS2, and the comic/book formats CB7, CBZ, and CBR. If your archive is a mainstream format, NanaZip almost certainly handles it; the extras matter mainly for developer artifacts, game/ROM images, and comic files.
The two format layers
NanaZip describes itself as a 7-Zip derivative, so its format support comes in two layers:
- Inherited from 7-Zip: the standard archive formats 7-Zip is known for. NanaZip's page does not re-list these individually, so treat 7-Zip's own format list as the baseline for this layer.
- Added by NanaZip: the formats named explicitly on the site, listed below.
Formats NanaZip adds beyond 7-Zip
| Category | Formats | Typical use |
|---|---|---|
| Compression codecs | Zstandard, Brotli, LZ4, LZ5, Lizard, Fast-LZMA2 | Modern high-speed or high-ratio compressed data |
| Developer/build artifacts | WASM, Electron ASAR, .NET Single File Bundle | WebAssembly modules, Electron app packages, bundled .NET apps |
| Installers and images | NSIS, ROMFS, UFS, UFS2, ZealFS | Windows installers, firmware/ROM and filesystem images |
| Comics and books | CB7, CBZ, CBR | Digital comic and book archives |
What this means in practice
- Everyday archives: if you are opening ZIP, 7z, or other common 7-Zip formats, NanaZip works as a drop-in replacement. The extra formats are a bonus, not a requirement.
- Developer files: Electron ASAR and .NET Single File Bundle are the notable ones — these are application packages, not archives you would normally think to open, and NanaZip lets you inspect their contents directly.
- Comic readers: CB7, CBZ, and CBR are supported, so NanaZip can serve as a viewer/extractor for comic archives without a separate tool.
- Compression codecs: Zstandard, Brotli, LZ4, and the others are modern codecs; support here means NanaZip can work with data compressed by those algorithms rather than only the classic 7-Zip codecs.
A related behavior: Smart Extraction
Format support and extraction behavior interact. NanaZip's Smart Extraction saves clicks for archives with a single root item and keeps files organized when there are multiple root items. You can also configure NanaZip to start Smart Extraction when you open an archive, instead of opening the File Manager. For a folder of mixed-format downloads, this changes how the extracted output is laid out, so it is worth knowing before you bulk-extract.
How to check a specific format
The site's format list is the authoritative source for what NanaZip adds. If a format is not named there, check whether 7-Zip supports it — that is the inherited layer. For anything outside both lists, do not assume support; test with a sample file before relying on NanaZip for that workflow.
