What gamedev assets does azagaya provide?
Updated
azagaya's itch.io page offers 2D pixel-art assets for game development, split across four categories: paid tools, free Godot themes, free Godot plugins, and free asset packs. If you are building a 2D pixel-art game in Godot and need dungeon tilesets, UI themes, or small utility tools, this page has something usable. If you need 3D assets, character sprites, or audio, it does not.
Gamedev Assets (art packs)
These are downloadable art packs, mostly for 2D pixel-art games:
| Asset | What it contains |
|---|---|
| Potions Pack | 9 potion types, each in 3 sizes and 8 colors |
| Zelda-Like Pink Dungeon | Dungeon tileset in Zelda-like perspective with a pink palette |
| Purple Dungeon TileSet | Pixel-art dungeon tileset in a purple palette |
| Pixel Art Controller Fonts | Pixel-art font set |
The two dungeon tilesets share a perspective and palette-driven approach, so they suit top-down or Zelda-like 2D games where you want a consistent look without building tiles from scratch. The Potions Pack works as inventory or pickup art in the same style.
Paid tools
Two tools carry listed prices on the page:
- Laigter — $4.99: a simple normal map generator for 2D sprites. There is also a separate "Laigter Brushes" entry for brush plugins for Laigter.
- ScaleNX — $2: a simple pixel-art upscaling tool, noted as free in the browser.
Both target the same workflow: preparing 2D pixel art for lighting or resolution changes. Laigter generates normal maps so 2D sprites can react to light; ScaleNX handles upscaling. The page lists ScaleNX as free in-browser, so you can test the upscaling behavior before deciding whether the $2 version is worth it.
Godot themes (free)
A set of UI themes for Godot games, all by azagaya:
- Neon Wave — retro-wave-inspired UI theme
- Metal Pixel — metal pixel theme for Godot Engine
- GIF Minimalistic — minimalistic UI theme
- SimpleBox GUI — simple theme
- Kenney's UI Theme — based on Kenney's UI Pack
- Ornate Pixel Art — ornate pixel-art theme
- Pixel Art Sci Fi — sci-fi pixel-art theme
These are drop-in UI themes, so the practical use is picking the one matching your game's palette and applying it rather than styling every Control node yourself. The range runs from minimal (GIF Minimalistic, SimpleBox) to stylized (Neon Wave, Ornate Pixel Art, Pixel Art Sci Fi).
Godot plugins (free)
- Godot Normal Map Generator — a dock plugin that creates normal maps for 2D sprites inside Godot.
- Godot Specular Map Generator — a plugin that generates specular maps for 2D in Godot.
These overlap with Laigter's purpose but run as editor docks, so you can generate maps without leaving Godot. If you already use Laigter, the plugins are an alternative for staying in-editor; if you don't, they cover the same normal/specular map need for 2D lighting setups.
Games and jams
The page also lists playable browser games, including Kafir (Demo), Volatile Defender, Bones Tour, Diary of Sedah, Worm Hero, Another Dungeon Game, A.R.S (Alien Rescue Simulator), Cyber Curse, and 0.99C, plus Gift & Slide and Spriteshift. Several are game-jam submissions (GameDev Neuquén Jam, GameJam Argentina Online 2). These are useful mainly as style references for how the assets look in motion.
How to choose
- Need dungeon art for a 2D pixel game → start with the Pink or Purple Dungeon TileSet, then add the Potions Pack for pickups.
- Need a Godot UI look fast → pick a theme matching your palette; the free ones cost nothing to try.
- Need 2D lighting maps → use Laigter ($4.99) if you want a standalone tool, or the free Godot plugins if you prefer working inside the editor.
- Need to upscale pixel art → try ScaleNX in the browser first, since the page lists that as free.
One caveat: the page does not state licensing terms for the free assets or themes, so check each item's page before using them in a commercial release.
