What Information Does BuildList.org List for Each Manufacturer?
Updated
BuildList.org is a directory of on-demand manufacturers organized by region and by process, and each entry is presented as a row in a comparison table rather than as a full company profile. For every listed manufacturer you get its name, its country, which processes it supports (FDM, powder, resin, metal, finishing), and — where the service publishes one — a setup fee or minimum order shown in local currency. The site's stated filter for inclusion is that each listing has instant quotes or online ordering, so you can upload project files and see cost and lead time immediately. The directory's last update is noted as Nov 2025.
The table columns and what each one tells you
The listings are grouped by process category — 3D printing, laser cut/engrave, CNC milling, sticker printing, custom packaging, book/zine printing, PCB manufacturing, and metal casting — and within each category the table uses the same column structure.
| Column | What it shows | How to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Name | Manufacturer or service name | Starting point for checking the vendor's own site |
| Country | Where the service is based | Useful for shipping distance, customs, and lead time |
| FDM | Whether fused deposition modeling is offered | Match against your part size and material needs |
| Powder | Whether powder-based printing is offered | Relevant for SLS-style parts |
| Resin | Whether resin printing is offered | Relevant for fine detail or smooth surfaces |
| Metal | Whether metal printing is offered | Narrows the list fast if you need metal |
| Finishing | Whether post-processing is available | Matters if surface quality is a requirement |
| Setup | Setup fee, in the vendor's currency | A one-time cost to add to your quote |
| Min | Minimum order | Tells you whether small runs are accepted |
A dash in a cell means the directory does not record that capability or figure for that vendor — it is not a statement that the service is unavailable.
Reading the setup fee and minimum columns
These two columns are the most useful for early-stage comparison, but they are not normalized. Amounts appear in the vendor's own currency, so you will see euros, pounds, dollars, Danish kroner, Norwegian kroner, and Malaysian ringgit side by side. Examples from the 3D printing section:
- Sculpteo (France) — €50 setup
- 3DActions (Denmark) — DKK229 minimum
- Maker Factory (Denmark) — DKK400 minimum
- Ideatec (Norway) — NOK250 minimum
- Projet (Malaysia) — MYR24 minimum
- RePrint3 (Germany) — €3 minimum
- Craftrum (Slovenia) — €3 setup, €5 minimum
Because currencies differ, treat these figures as a rough screen for "does this vendor work at my scale" rather than as a like-for-like price comparison. A vendor with no setup fee listed may still charge one — the column only reflects what the directory records.
Using region and process together
The directory is split into Asia, Africa, Europe, North America, and Central & South America, and the process tables repeat within each region. That means the practical way to narrow down is to pick your process first, then scan the region you can realistically ship to or from.
For example, if you need resin printing with finishing and you are sourcing from Europe, you would scan the Europe 3D printing table for rows with entries in both the Resin and Finishing columns, then compare the setup and minimum figures across those rows. If you need metal, the same scan applies but the candidate list will be much shorter.
What the listings do not include
The directory is a starting index, not a quoting tool. It does not publish per-part prices, material datasheets, tolerances, or lead times — those come from the vendor's own instant-quote flow, which is the entry requirement for being listed. It also does not rank or rate vendors, and it does not state whether a given service ships to your country; the overview only notes that most services offer international shipping.
So the workflow the directory supports is: filter by process and region, shortlist by the capability columns, use setup fee and minimum to drop vendors that don't fit your run size, then go to each shortlisted vendor's site to upload files and get the actual quote.
