EnglishWhat Is 18North?
Updated
18North is an in-person 18xx board game convention held in the Twin Cities area of Minnesota. It is designed for both experienced 18xx players and curious newcomers, and the next edition is scheduled for November 12–15, 2026, at Union Depot in Saint Paul, MN.
What Happens at 18North
The convention is built around 18xx, a family of heavy economic train games known for stock manipulation, route building, and long play times. According to the event site, the focus is on immersive play: exploring the games, connecting with other players, and building bonds over the table.
Because 18xx titles can run for hours and reward repeated play, a dedicated convention gives attendees something a local game night often cannot — a critical mass of players who already know the rules and are ready to start a game.
Who It Is For
The event explicitly welcomes two groups:
- Serious players who want multiple days of deep 18xx sessions
- Curious newcomers who have heard about 18xx and want to learn in a supportive setting
If you have never played an 18xx game, the convention framing suggests you do not need prior experience to attend — but you should expect long, rules-heavy games and plan to learn from other players.
