What Is a Daily Music Game Like Music Guessr and How Does It Work?
Updated
Music Guessr is a browser-based daily music game where you hear six songs and pin each artist's country of origin on a map. It works like GeoGuessr, except the clue is audio instead of a street view: you listen, decide where the artist comes from, and click that country on the map. The page shows a round counter ("Round 1/6"), a running score out of 30,000, and two ways to play — a Daily mode and an Unlimited mode.
The core loop: listen, then pin a country
Each round follows the same three steps:
- Listen. A song plays with a standard audio player (play/pause and a progress bar). You can replay it as many times as you want before guessing.
- Guess the origin. The prompt is "Click to choose music country." You pick the country you believe the artist comes from by clicking it on the map.
- Score and advance. Your pick is scored, the running total updates, and you move to the next round until all six are done.
The skill being tested isn't "name that tune" — it's song geography. You're inferring an artist's country of origin from what you hear: language, accent, genre conventions, instrumentation, production style, and any regional cues in the music itself.
How scoring works across six rounds
The score counter reads 0 / 30,000, which tells you two things:
- 30,000 is the maximum for a full game. With six rounds, that works out to a ceiling of 5,000 points per round.
- The counter is cumulative. It starts at 0 and climbs as you complete rounds, so "0 / 30,000" is your progress toward a perfect run, not a per-round score.
As with map-based guessing games, accuracy is what pays: the closer your chosen country is to the artist's actual origin, the more of that round's points you keep. A near-miss on the right continent should score better than a guess on the other side of the world.
Daily mode vs. Unlimited mode
The page offers both, and they serve different purposes:
| Mode | What it gives you | When to use it |
|---|---|---|
| Daily | One set of rounds tied to the day, plus a date selector ("Date mode") to open a specific day's challenge | A fixed daily puzzle you can compare with others, or catching up on a day you missed |
| Unlimited | Repeated play without the once-a-day limit | Practicing your ear, testing strategies, or playing when the daily is already done |
If you want a shared, comparable result, play the Daily. If you want to improve, use Unlimited to build up your sense of how different regions sound.
Why it's called "GeoGuessr for music"
GeoGuessr asks where in the world is this? and gives you visual evidence. Music Guessr asks the same question but swaps the evidence to audio. That changes what you're actually good at:
- In GeoGuessr, you read road signs, vegetation, architecture, and driving side.
- In Music Guessr, you read language and dialect, vocal delivery, rhythmic feel, and genre traditions tied to a place.
So a strong player here isn't necessarily a trivia expert — they're someone who can connect a sound to a region. If you already recognize, say, the difference between West African and Caribbean rhythms, or pick up on a language you've heard before, that's the transferable skill.
Getting started
Open the site, let the first track play, and click the country you think the artist is from. Watch the round counter climb from 1/6 to 6/6 and the score build toward 30,000. When the daily set is finished, switch to Unlimited if you want more reps — or use the date mode to replay a specific day.
