What Is barcodrod.io and What Can It Do?
barcodrod.io is a free, open-source Windows app by Mark Hopper for reading, creating, and saving barcodes and QR codes. It handles both directions of the workflow in one place: decoding codes from images, a camera, the clipboard, or entire folders, and generating new barcodes and Wi-Fi QR codes while keeping a history of what you've made. It's built with C#, WinUI 3, and .NET, distributed through the Microsoft Store, and described on markhopper.info as actively maintained.
What barcodrod.io does
The app covers two main jobs:
Decoding (reading) codes
- From image files
- From your camera
- From the clipboard
- In bulk, from whole folders
Creating codes
- Standard barcodes, including UPC
- Wi-Fi QR codes (so a phone can join a network by scanning)
It also keeps a saved history of barcodes you've created, so you can find and reuse them later.
How it's built and maintained
| Attribute | Detail |
|---|---|
| Platform | Windows |
| Stack | C#, WinUI 3, .NET |
| Status | Free, open source, actively maintained |
| Distribution | Microsoft Store (source also available) |

The project page reports roughly 13K installs over 12 months and about 422 monthly active devices (30-day average), checked September 12, 2026.
When it's a good fit
Choose barcodrod.io if you're on Windows and want one tool that both reads and generates codes without a subscription, and you value being able to inspect or contribute to the source. The bulk folder decoding is useful when you have a batch of images to process rather than a single scan. The Wi-Fi QR feature is handy for sharing network access without typing a password.
If you only need occasional single-code scanning on a phone, a mobile app may be simpler — barcodrod.io is a desktop Windows tool.
