EnglishWhat Is Calvin Taylor Music?
Updated
Calvin Taylor Music is the official site of Dr. Calvin Taylor, a pianist, arranger, and composer who has worked in full-time music ministry for more than 35 years. The site serves two main purposes: it presents two bookable worship and concert programs, and it catalogs Dr. Taylor's published printed music for piano, organ, orchestra, and choir. If you are a church looking to schedule a service or concert, or a musician searching for his arrangements, this is the site to start from.
What the site offers
The homepage is organized around three areas, each with its own heading.
Holy Scripture ~ Alive With Sounds of Music
This is a 45-minute "sermon in songs." According to the site, it combines:
- Beautiful scripture passages
- Moving piano solos
- Congregational singing
The site states this worship format has been presented in hundreds of churches across America. A testimonial from the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) describes Dr. Taylor as "particularly effective in having the congregation participate in worship."
To inquire about or schedule this service at your church, the site directs visitors to the Concerts page.
Calvin Taylor in Concert
The evening concert is described as a more formal presentation. Key details from the site:
| Detail | Description |
|---|---|
| Format | Formal evening concert |
| Program duration | 75 minutes |
| Repertoire | Beloved hymns, well-known spirituals, classics, and patriotic music |
| Distinctive feature | Improvisations; a hand span of over 1½ octaves, producing sounds that would normally require four hands |
A testimonial from Beth Pratt, religion editor at The Avalanche-Journal, recounts attending a concert at Lubbock's First Presbyterian Church and coming home with four of his albums.
To schedule a concert in your area, the site points to the Concerts page.
Printed Music
Dr. Taylor has arranged sacred hymns and spirituals for piano performance, plus works for organ, orchestra, and choir. Publications named on the site include:
- Spirituals for Piano
- The Patriotic Piano
- Spiritual Suite for Organ
- Grand Spirituals Collection
- Resounding Piano Praise!
- Five Spirituals for Organ
Who this site is for
- Church worship planners considering a guest musician for a service — the 45-minute scripture-and-song format is built for congregational participation.
- Concert organizers looking for a 75-minute evening program of hymns, spirituals, classics, and patriotic music.
- Pianists, organists, and choir directors seeking published arrangements of sacred music.
What to do next
If you want to book Dr. Taylor, the site's own instruction is to visit the Concerts page for scheduling a worship service or a concert. If you are interested in the sheet music, the Printed Music section lists the available titles. Note that the site does not publish pricing for performances or publications, so any cost or availability questions would need to go through the contact route on the Concerts page.
