What is Complexity (cplx.app)?
Updated
Complexity is a browser extension that adds personalized quality-of-life features to Perplexity.ai. It is aimed at people who use Perplexity regularly and want faster access to model, focus mode, and thread controls without digging through settings. It is available as a Chrome Web Store extension and a Mozilla Add-on, and its own site describes it as "Perplexity AI Supercharged."
What Complexity actually does
Complexity does not replace Perplexity. It sits on top of the Perplexity interface and changes how you interact with it. The site groups its features around reducing friction in everyday use:
- On-the-fly model and focus mode switching — change your preferred model and focus mode without leaving the settings page, including mid-thread.
- Spaces access from the homepage — interact with Spaces without navigating away from the homepage to start a new thread.
- Thread table of contents — jump around a long thread instead of scrolling.
- Sticky toolbar — keeps message actions (Rewrite, Edit, Copy with or without links, and others) within reach.
- Custom Markdown block — no line wrap by default, plus syntax highlighting for languages that Perplexity does not natively support.
- Experimental thread export — save an entire thread or individual messages as Markdown, with or without links.
- Custom theme — includes an ADHD-friendly color scheme out of the box, and lets you define your own accent color, fonts, and more.
A Prompt Library for creating, managing, and sharing prompts is listed as in development, along with "many more" features the site says did not fit on the page.
Who it is for
The clearest signal comes from the user quotes on the site. One reviewer (Daily Focus, May 31, 2024) describes the model and collection selectors as transforming their workflow and calls the extension "a lifesaver for anyone who uses Perplexity on a daily basis," specifically praising mid-chat focus mode changes. Another (Markus Weninger, Jul 2, 2024) says they switched their default browser from Firefox to Brave just to use the extension, and notes the developer is open to suggestions via the Perplexity Discord community.
That points to a specific audience: heavy or power users of Perplexity who already know which models and focus modes they want and find the default navigation slow. If you open Perplexity occasionally for one-off questions, the feature set is less likely to matter to you.
How to get it and where to give feedback
Install it from the Chrome Web Store or Mozilla Add-ons, both linked from cplx.app. The site directs users to a Discord community for suggesting new features and reporting issues — the same channel the reviewer above cites as active and responsive.
What to keep in mind
- The site does not state pricing, so do not assume it is free or paid; check the store listing for current terms.
- Thread export is labeled experimental, so treat it as a feature still being stabilized.
- The Prompt Library is not yet available; it is listed as in development.
- Because Complexity modifies the Perplexity interface, its behavior depends on Perplexity's own UI — expect occasional breakage when Perplexity changes its layout.
