What Is Crutchfield.com and What Can You Buy There?

Updated

Crutchfield.com is an online retailer of car and home electronics that has been in business since 1974. You can buy car audio and video gear, home audio and video equipment, and pro audio products there, and the site backs purchases with free 2-day shipping, 60-day returns, price-drop protection, and lifetime tech support. It suits shoppers who want help choosing and installing electronics, not just a place to add items to a cart.

What Crutchfield sells

The catalog spans three broad areas:

  • Car electronics — audio and video equipment for vehicles, the category the company is best known for.
  • Home electronics — audio and video gear for the house.
  • Pro audio — a dedicated section with pro amplifiers, pro headphones, and bundled pro audio packages, plus specials and outlet listings.

If you already know the exact model you want, the site works like a standard electronics store. If you don't, the selection tools and buying guides are the more useful part.

The research and support side

Crutchfield publishes articles, how-to content, FAQs, and shopping guides alongside its product listings, including a dedicated library for pro audio. These are meant to help you match gear to your vehicle or room before you buy.

The service terms are part of the offer:

Benefit What it covers
Free 2-day shipping Delivery on orders
60-day returns Return window after purchase
Price-drop protection Protection if the price falls after you buy
Lifetime tech support Help after the sale

Lifetime tech support is the differentiator worth weighing. For car audio in particular, installation questions are common, and having a support line tied to the purchase can save a trip to a shop.

Who it fits

Crutchfield is a reasonable starting point if you are upgrading a car stereo system, setting up home audio or video, or outfitting a small pro audio setup and want guidance plus post-sale help. If you are shopping purely on lowest price and already know your model numbers, compare against other retailers — the support and return terms are the main reason to pay attention to this site rather than the listings alone.

Before buying, confirm the specific product fits your vehicle or setup using the site's fit tools and guides, and check the current shipping and return terms on the product page, since those can vary by item.
