What Is EaglercraftX WASM and How Is It Different from the Standard EaglercraftX Client?
Updated
EaglercraftX WASM is the WebAssembly build of the EaglercraftX browser Minecraft client. It runs the same game in your browser tab, but the heavy code is compiled to WebAssembly instead of JavaScript, which the EaglerCraftX site says "usually has better performance but may not work on some browsers." Choose it when you want smoother frame rates and your browser supports WASM; fall back to the standard client if the WASM version fails to load or misbehaves.
What "WASM" actually changes
Both builds are browser clients, not separate games or mods. The difference is the runtime the game logic executes on:
- Standard client: game code runs as JavaScript, which is broadly compatible but slower for CPU-heavy work.
- WASM client: the same game logic is compiled to WebAssembly, a lower-level format browsers execute closer to native speed.
In practice this affects loading time, frame consistency, and how well the client holds up on lower-end machines. It does not change the game version, the server list, or how you join a world.
Where the WASM builds sit on the site
The client picker lists WASM variants alongside their standard counterparts, marked with a [WASM] tag:
| Version | Standard client | WASM client |
|---|---|---|
| 1.12 | Main 1.12 Client | Main 1.12 Client [WASM] |
| 1.8 | Main 1.8 Client | Main 1.8 Client [WASM] |
| Astra | Astra Client | Astra Client [WASM] |
| 1.5.2 | EaglyMC Client | EaglyMC Client [WASM] |
Modded clients (EaglerForge, Starlike, Prism, Precision Beta, and others) and older versions (1.7.3, 1.6.4, 1.2.6, b1.3, Infdev) are listed separately. If you need a specific mod loader, check whether a WASM build exists for it before assuming one does.
How to launch a WASM client
- Open the EaglerCraftX site and find the "Pick a Client" section.
- Choose the version you want and click the entry with the
[WASM]tag (for example, "Main 1.8 Client [WASM]"). - Wait for the client to load in the page. Expect a longer first load than the JavaScript build.
- If the game starts, you are running the WASM build. Join a server from the server list at the bottom of the page, or play locally.
Expected result: the game renders and responds in the browser tab. If it does not: the page itself warns that WASM "may not work on some browsers," so switch to the matching standard client for the same version.
Choosing between WASM and standard
- Try WASM first if your browser is current and you want the performance edge, especially on modest hardware.
- Use the standard client if the WASM build shows a blank screen, fails to start, or stutters — compatibility, not speed, is the deciding factor there.
- Match the version either way. A 1.8 WASM client and a 1.12 WASM client are different game versions; pick based on the server or mods you intend to use, not on the runtime.
Two things to know before you start
Clients may be outdated. The site states plainly that "these clients might be outdated" and that a new site is in progress. If a WASM client behaves oddly, that is a plausible cause rather than a problem on your end.
There is a reset option. A "DANGER ZONE" section offers "Reset All Local Data," with a confirmation prompt before clearing local storage. Use it when a client keeps failing to load or settings appear corrupted — but understand it wipes all locally stored data for the site, not just one client's cache.
For questions, bug reports, or suggestions, the site points to its Discord server, and it also hosts a server list and mod list at the bottom of the page.
