What Is Exotix Studios?

Updated

Exotix Studios is a body piercing specialty studio in Toronto, Canada. It opened in 2002 in the Church Street Village, spent eight years there, and later relocated to the Fashion District, where it operates today. The studio describes itself as Toronto's first and only body piercing specialty studio, offering piercings, jewelry sales, and custom design consultations in private piercing rooms.

If you are looking for a dedicated piercing studio rather than a tattoo shop that also does piercings, this is the type of business Exotix represents. If you want a service it explicitly does not offer — such as surface piercings or extreme body modification — you would need to look elsewhere.

What services does Exotix Studios offer?

The studio's work falls into three broad areas:

  • Piercing services — most piercings are available as long as they are anatomically viable and safe, and every piercing starts with an anatomy consultation.
  • Jewelry — rings, studs, chains, and charms.
  • Custom design consultations — sitting down to discuss designing a custom piece.

Age rules and ID requirements

Age limits are a hard condition of service here, not a guideline:

Category Minimum age Notes
Most piercings 16+ Government-issued photo ID required; no exceptions
Nipple piercings 18+ Restricted due to intimate nature or advanced healing requirements
Genital piercings 18+ Same
Microdermal piercings 18+ Same

Services Exotix Studios does not provide

This list matters if you are searching for one of these specifically. The studio states it does not offer:

  • Industrial piercings
  • Snake eye piercings
  • Frog eye piercings
  • Nasallang piercings
  • Surface piercings
  • Extreme body modification of any kind, including scarification, ear pointing, and tongue bifurcation

Who are the piercers?

The studio lists four team members, each with a distinct role and specialty:

Six — Owner & Body Piercer

Piercing since 1999; opened Exotix Studios in 2002. Voted NOW Magazine's Best Body Piercer in 2016. Specializes in genital and microdermal piercings, is well versed in all piercings, and names the vertical labret as his favourite to perform.

Gordon — Body Piercer

Piercing since 2009; joined Exotix in 2015. Has attended the Association of Professional Piercers. Recommended for septum and bridge piercings, or anything in a large gauge. His favourite is a conch.

Lindsay — Manager & Apprentice

With Exotix since 2017. Handles reception and keeps the studio running smoothly; began her piercing apprenticeship in 2024. A good fit if you like chains, charms, and maximalist styling.

Aisling — Receptionist

Handles client assistance at the front desk.

How to decide whether to book here

Exotix is a reasonable choice if you want a studio that focuses only on piercing, values private piercing rooms, and offers an anatomy consultation before every procedure. The age restrictions and the excluded service list are the two things most likely to rule it out for a given person, so check those first. If your piercing is on the excluded list, or you are under 16, the studio's own policy means you will need a different provider regardless of anything else.
