What Is IIT Guwahati's Official Website?

Updated

The official website of the Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati is iitg.ac.in. It is the institute's own web presence, identifying IIT Guwahati as the sixth member of the IIT system, established in 1994, with its academic programme beginning in 1995. Use the site as the starting point for official institute information, news, and academic programme details.

What the Site Represents

IIT Guwahati describes itself on the site as covering all major engineering, science, and humanities disciplines. At the time of the site's description, the institute had eleven departments and five inter-disciplinary academic centres, offering:

  • BTech
  • BDes
  • MA
  • MDes
  • MTech
  • MSc
  • PhD

The site's stated role is to share institute news, academic information, and general details about the institution. A "Latest News" section carries announcements, such as faculty appointments and editorial board memberships.

How to Use It

The site is best treated as an official reference point rather than a single-purpose portal:

  1. Confirm institutional facts — establishment year, programme list, and department structure come directly from the institute's own description.
  2. Check announcements — the news section is where the institute posts current items, such as the recent appointment of Dr. Pinosh Kumar Hajoary to the Scientific Editorial Board of Circular Economy and Sustainability (Springer Nature).
  3. Follow links for specifics — programme requirements, admission details, and departmental pages are reached through the site rather than summarized on the homepage.

What to Keep in Mind

  • The site is in English and is the authoritative source for institutional claims; third-party summaries of IIT Guwahati should be checked against it.
  • The available description does not state fees, admission deadlines, or login requirements. Do not assume any programme or service is free or open without login; verify on the relevant page.
  • News items change over time, so treat any single announcement as current only as of when you view it.

For anything involving applications, eligibility, or payments, go through the official pages on iitg.ac.in rather than relying on secondary sources.
