What is NUSPS (The Photographic Society of NUS)?
Updated
NUSPS is the Photographic Society of the National University of Singapore — a student photography community whose site, nusps.org.sg, serves as its official hub for events, membership, and its annual Montage showcase. It is relevant to you if you are an NUS student or photography enthusiast looking for organized photowalks, talks, exhibitions, or a community to shoot with; the site itself is informational and does not present itself as a commercial service.
What the society does
The site's published activity falls into three recurring categories:
- Photowalks — organized shoots in specific neighborhoods. Past listings include a Joo Chiat Photowalk (20 April 2024, 0900–1200, focused on Peranakan houses, with gear provided and loaned on a first-come basis), a Central Business District Photowalk with guest speaker Nikko Pascua on street photography, and a Chinese New Year Photowalk and lucky draw in Chinatown.
- Talks — the "Light Talks" series. One listed session, Light Talks 3 on Travel Photography (5 April 2024, 1900–2100, Town Plaza Seminar Room 9), invited participants to share their own travel photographs or simply attend.
- Montage — an annual themed showcase running since at least 2017, with editions titled Transformation (2017), Timeless (2018), Our National Identity (2019), This is My Story (2020), Change (2021), the New Normal (2022), Perspectives (2024), Past, Present, and Future (2025), and Connections (2026). Montage 2024 submissions closed on 25 July 2024, after which entries moved to judging and winners were to be contacted in early August.
What you can find on the site
The navigation reflects the society's structure: About Us, the Montage archive, Membership, Contact Us, and a list of past Management Committees (49th through 55th). The "Recent Posts" feed carries event announcements and post-event thank-yous, which is where practical details like dates, times, venues, and gear availability appear.
How to use it
If you want to join an activity, check the Recent Posts feed for the latest announcement and note the stated date, time, and location — past posts show this pattern clearly (for example, the Joo Chiat walk listed its date, hours, and that equipment would be loaned first-come). If you are interested in membership, the Membership page is the entry point; the site does not publish pricing or sign-up mechanics in the material available here, so confirm terms directly through that page or Contact Us. If you want to see the kind of work the community produces or the themes it sets, browse the Montage archive by year.
One practical caveat: the posts shown are from 2024, so treat listed dates as historical examples of format rather than a current calendar — verify upcoming events on the live site before planning around them.
