What Is ProFile by Intuit and What Is It Used For?
Updated
ProFile is professional tax preparation and e-filing software from Intuit, built for Canadian tax preparers rather than individual filers. It is used to prepare and electronically file T1 personal, T2 corporate, T3 trust, and T4/T5 and other information returns, with CRA EFILE tools built directly into the program. If you prepare returns for multiple clients or across more than one return type, ProFile is designed for that workflow; if you file only your own return, it is more software than you need.
Who ProFile is built for
ProFile targets tax professionals and firms: accountants, bookkeepers, and preparers handling client volumes. The product structure reflects this — modules are licensed separately by return type, and a single install gives access to all years and modules so you can pull up returns going back a decade.
What return types it covers
| Module | Return type |
|---|---|
| T1 / T1 TP1 | Personal (federal and Québec) |
| T2 / CO-17 | Corporate |
| T3 | Trust |
| T4, T5 & Other | Information returns and other tax forms |
| Tax Suites | Federal & Québec suites combining individual, corporate, and trust returns |
| FX | Foreign reporting forms |
| OnePay | Single returns, including T1 and T1/TP1 |
| ProFile 20 | 20 T1 returns |
A single install provides access to all years and modules, so you are not reinstalling per return type.
Core capabilities
- CRA EFILE integration — EFILE tools are built into ProFile, so you can file T1/TP1 returns individually or multiple in one session, and import groups of corporations for T2 filing.
- Real-time auditor — flags errors as you work rather than at the end.
- Variance analysis — shows the potential impact of changes to a return.
- Broad form coverage — includes GST, HST, and QST forms alongside income tax forms and worksheets.
- Flexible licensing — modules can be licensed to match the return types you actually file.
Pricing and trial options
ProFile lists a fall sale running to October 13 with savings up to $200: $200 off Suites, $180 off the T1/TP1 + T2 CO-17 bundle, and $90 off the T1/TP1 Module. A free trial is available, and pricing and bundles are published on a dedicated pricing page. For single-return needs, OnePay is offered separately, and ProFile 20 provides 20 T1 returns for $320, or T1/TP1 for $405. Current pricing should be confirmed on the pricing page, since sale terms are time-limited.
When ProFile is the right fit — and when it isn't
Choose ProFile if you:
- Prepare Canadian returns for clients across T1, T2, T3, or information return types
- Need CRA EFILE built in rather than as a separate step
- Want access to prior-year returns without separate installs
- Benefit from error-checking during preparation
Look elsewhere if you:
- File only your own personal return — consumer tax software is simpler and cheaper
- Work outside Canadian tax filing
- Only occasionally need a single return — OnePay may cover that without a full module license
Getting started

- Start a free trial or purchase through the pricing page.
- Download and activate the software.
