What Is QUILT 2027 and How Can You Take Part?

Updated

QUILT 2027 is the San Francisco Quilters Guild's (SFQG) biennial quilt show, scheduled for April 2–3, 2027. You can take part as a volunteer, a challenger, or a quilt owner seeking an appraisal — but each path has its own steps and timing, and some details sit behind the guild's Members Only page. Below is what the guild's site confirms and what you need to do to get involved.

The Basics

Item Detail
Event QUILT 2027
Dates April 2–3, 2027
Host San Francisco Quilters Guild (SFQG)
Co-chairs Margo Carroll & Rene Steinpress
Challenge theme "No Rule(r)s!"
Appraisals Nancy Bavor, by arrangement

The show is still more than a year out, so the site's emphasis is on organizing: recruiting volunteers, collecting challenge entries, and lining up appraisals.

Volunteering

The co-chairs are running monthly Team Leader meetings by Zoom and have set up a digital SignUp for volunteers. To join:

  1. Go to the guild's volunteer SignUp (linked from the QUILT 2027 announcement on the homepage).
  2. Pick a team or task that fits your time.
  3. Watch for the monthly Team Leader Zoom meetings if you take a leadership role.

The site says volunteers are needed now, so this is the most immediate way to participate. If you want a specific role, the SignUp list is the place to check what's still open.

The "No Rule(r)s!" Challenge

The 2027 Challenge Theme is "No Rule(r)s!" Entry Guidelines and Additional Information are linked from the homepage announcement. Read those guidelines before you start sewing — the theme's playful name suggests the rules may be looser than usual, but the entry requirements themselves are still formal and worth confirming early.

A related, smaller project is also running: turn in an 8.5″ Quiltlet to be entered in a drawing for a prize this fall. Quiltlet instructions are posted alongside the challenge information.

Quilt Appraisals

Nancy Bavor will provide quilt appraisals at QUILT 2027. To arrange one, email Elfrieda O'Neill to coordinate. Details are on the Members Only page, so non-members may need to ask Elfrieda directly about eligibility and scheduling.

Before You Reply to Anything

The guild posts a phishing alert on its homepage, and it's worth repeating:

  • No one from the guild will email you asking for money on the guild's behalf, and no one will send an urgent request for money.
  • Verify that any unusual email's address matches the sender's name before replying.
  • Don't click unsolicited links that ask you to log in to an account.

Since QUILT 2027 involves volunteering and entry submissions, expect communication by email — and apply the checks above to anything that looks off.

What to Do Next

  • To volunteer: use the digital SignUp linked from the QUILT 2027 announcement.
  • To enter the challenge: read the "No Rule(r)s!" Entry Guidelines first, then follow the submission steps they describe.
  • To get a quilt appraised: email Elfrieda O'Neill to coordinate with Nancy Bavor.
  • For member-only details: check the Members Only page, or attend a monthly meeting (third Tuesday, in person at St. Anne of the Sunset) where you can ask questions directly.

Dates and arrangements can shift between now and April 2027, so confirm against the guild's Event Calendar and homepage announcements before you commit time or submit an entry.
