What Is Ringette for All (RFA) Calgary and Who Is It For?

Updated

Ringette for All (RFA) Calgary is an adapted ringette program sanctioned by Ringette Alberta where everyone gets to play. It is open to any player aged 8–18 with a developmental and/or physical disability, and all abilities are welcome — every participant is part of the team. The Women's Ringette Association of Calgary (WRAC) supports the program and points to Ringette Calgary for more information.

Who RFA is for

The program is designed around one idea: everyone plays. According to the program description, eligibility is:

  • Age: 8–18 years
  • Ability: any player with a developmental and/or physical disability
  • Welcome level: all abilities — no prior ringette experience is implied as a requirement

If your child falls outside that age range, or you are an adult looking to try ringette, RFA is not the entry point. WRAC's own beginner offering, Progressive Adult Ringette, is aimed at adults instead.

How RFA fits with WRAC

WRAC is a non-profit organization for players primarily 19 years of age and older who want to play on recreational teams. It has 11 teams, 200+ players, and was established over 35 years ago. RFA sits alongside that adult recreational focus as a youth adapted program that WRAC publicly supports.

So the two serve different groups:

Program Typical participant Purpose
RFA Calgary Ages 8–18 with developmental and/or physical disabilities Adapted ringette where everyone plays
WRAC recreational teams Primarily 19+ Recreational team play for women in Calgary
Progressive Adult Ringette Adult beginners Try ringette and potentially join a team

How to get more information or join

The program details and registration path are hosted by Ringette Calgary, not on the WRAC site itself. The WRAC page directs readers to:

https://ringettecalgary.ca/information/programs/rfa/

Start there for current program specifics, schedules, and how to register. Because RFA is Ringette Alberta sanctioned, the program operates under provincial ringette governance rather than as a standalone WRAC initiative.

What to check before signing up

  • Confirm the age and eligibility criteria with Ringette Calgary, since program details can change season to season.
  • Ask about support needs — the program states all abilities are welcome and all are part of the team, but it is worth confirming what accommodations are available for your child's specific situation.
  • Check current dates and any fees directly with the program, as the WRAC page does not list RFA scheduling or pricing.

For adult beginners instead, WRAC's Progressive Adult Ringette sessions have run in the fall (September 15, 22 and October 6, 20, 9–10pm at Chestermere Rec Centre, red rink, $80 total, 22 spots), with contact by email to Jeannette Bailey at [email protected].
