What Is SFQG (San Francisco Quilters Guild)?
Updated
SFQG is the San Francisco Quilters Guild, a quilting community that meets in person in San Francisco and runs a mix of monthly programs, workshops, a lending library, community outreach, and a biennial quilt show. It is the right fit if you want a local, in-person guild with regular meetings and ways to volunteer or exhibit; it is not an online-only resource, since its core activities happen at St. Anne of the Sunset in San Francisco.
What the Guild Offers
Monthly In-Person Meetings
Meetings are held at St. Anne of the Sunset. The next listed meeting is November 10, 7:00–9:00 PM, featuring a talk by Radha Weaver titled "From fast fashion to sustainable stitching." Meetings are the main entry point for newcomers and the place where library access and other in-person services are available.
Workshops
The guild runs workshops and takes requests through its Workshops Chair. If you have a technique or teacher you want to see, contacting the chair is the stated way to propose it.
Library
The guild library is available at monthly in-person meetings. Questions go to Cher delaMere, and the catalog can be searched online before you attend.
Community Outreach
Outreach includes making quilts for donation. Curbside Outreach happens on the first Saturday of each month, and there is also outreach at the in-person meeting on the third Tuesday of each month. The guild notes there may be exceptions, so check the Event Calendar to confirm dates before showing up.
QUILT 2027 and Member Opportunities
QUILT 2027 is scheduled for April 2–3, 2027. Current announcements include:
- Volunteers needed. Co-chairs Margo Carroll and Rene Steinpress host monthly Team Leader meetings by Zoom, and there is a digital SignUp to volunteer.
- Quiltlet drawing. Members who turn in an 8.5″ Quiltlet are entered in a drawing for a prize; instructions are posted on the site.
- 2027 Challenge theme: "No Rule(r)s!" Entry guidelines are published on the site.
- Quilt appraisals. Nancy Bavor will appraise quilts at QUILT 2027; details are on the Members Only Page, and Elfrieda O'Neill coordinates requests by email.
- Quilt Index submissions. Members can submit quilts to the Quilt Index.
Some of these—the Global Quilt Connection All Star Sampler access on October 24–25, appraisal details, and other resources—sit behind the Members Only Page, so membership matters if you want the full set of benefits.
A Realistic Example
Say you quilt occasionally and want to meet local makers and find a donation project. A practical sequence: check the Event Calendar to confirm the next meeting and the outreach Saturday, attend the November 10 meeting at St. Anne of the Sunset, ask about the library and the current outreach project while there, and sign up for the QUILT 2027 volunteer list if you want a larger role. If you only want to exhibit, the Challenge entry guidelines and Quiltlet instructions are the pages to read first.
Before You Engage: A Security Note
The guild posts a phishing alert worth taking seriously:
- No one from the guild will email you asking you to send money on the guild's behalf, and no one will send an urgent money request.
- Verify that an unusual email's address actually matches the sender's name before replying.
- Don't click unsolicited emailed links to log in to accounts.
