What is SimplyGames and what can you buy on it?

Updated

SimplyGames is a UK-based online entertainment retailer that has been trading since 1998. It sells video games, consoles and accessories across PlayStation, Xbox, Nintendo Switch and PC, and also stocks music, film/TV media and tabletop products. You can browse and pre-order upcoming releases or buy items that are already available, with checkout and account sign-in on the site. Delivery is free for orders over £80, according to the site.

What product categories does SimplyGames cover?

The site is organised around gaming first, with entertainment and tabletop as secondary categories.

Category What's listed
PlayStation PS5 games, accessories and consoles; PS4 games, accessories and consoles; PlayStation VR
Xbox Xbox Series X|S games, accessories and consoles; Xbox One games, accessories and consoles
Nintendo Switch games, accessories and consoles; Switch 2 games, accessories and consoles
PC PC titles
Music CD, vinyl, cassette
TV/Film DVD, Blu-ray, 4K UHD
Tabletop Trading cards, board games and jigsaws

If you are shopping for a current-generation console or a new release, the PS5, Xbox Series X|S and Switch sections are the most relevant. If you want physical media for films or music, those sections sit alongside the games rather than in a separate store.

Pre-orders vs buy-now purchases

SimplyGames lists two kinds of items on its homepage and category pages:

  • Pre-orders — upcoming titles with a listed price and a "Pre-Order" button. Examples shown on the site include Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 at £64.95, Grand Theft Auto VI at £69.85 and Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis Day One Edition at £44.95.
  • Buy Now — items that are already available, such as Hot Wheels Infinite Rush at £38.95 or Star Fox at £55.99.

Prices shown are the site's listed prices at the time of the page capture and can change, so check the product page before ordering. Some items show a struck-through original price next to a lower current price, as with AEW: Fight Forever at £14.99 reduced to £13.99.

Delivery, payment and account basics

  • Delivery: The site advertises free next working day tracked delivery when you spend over £80.00, marked with an asterisk, so check the delivery terms for exclusions before relying on it for a small order.
  • Payment: PayPal is listed as a payment platform. Other payment options are not specified in the available information.
  • Account and checkout: You can sign in to an account or use the checkout register page. The header shows a checkout counter (for example, "Checkout ( 0 )") so you can see how many items are in your basket.

Is SimplyGames a retailer you can trust?

The site describes itself as an established UK retailer operating since 1998 and cites industry awards: MCV's "Best Online Games Retailer" in 2013 and 2014, plus top-five nominations in 2015, 2016 and 2017. It also states it has served hundreds of thousands of customers and dispatches thousands of orders each week. These are the company's own claims, so treat the awards and customer numbers as self-reported rather than independently verified here.

For practical reassurance, the site links to Help/Information pages covering terms and privacy policy, FAQs and contact details, cookies, and console recycling. Checking the FAQ and contact pages is the quickest way to confirm returns, order tracking and support routes before you buy.

Who is it best for?

SimplyGames suits UK shoppers who want physical games and consoles for current and recent platforms, and who may also pick up films, music or board games in the same order. It is less obviously aimed at buyers outside the UK, since the delivery promise and pricing are framed in pounds and around UK working-day delivery. If you are pre-ordering a major release, compare the listed pre-order price with other retailers and confirm the delivery terms for release-day arrival.
