What is Strongsville Community Theatre?
Updated
Strongsville Community Theatre (SCT) is a community theatre organization based in Strongsville, Ohio, that has been producing live performances since 1995. It stages mainstage plays and musicals along with youth productions, and it runs the Jean Thom Theatre Arts Scholarship for local high school seniors. It is the right starting point if you want to see local theatre, audition, volunteer, or apply for its scholarship.
What SCT produces
SCT describes its mission as choosing "the finest scripts available" and being "a leader in the arts in our area." Since 1995, it reports having entertained more than 20,000 audience members. Its season mixes full-length mainstage shows with shorter youth adaptations.
| Production | Type | Dates | Venue |
|---|---|---|---|
| Arsenic & Old Lace | Mainstage play | February 20 – March 1, 2026 | SHS Little Theater |
| Tuck Everlasting | Mainstage musical | April 17–26, 2026 | SHS Little Theater |
| The SpongeBob Musical: Youth Edition | Youth production (one hour) | July 9–12, 2026 | Strongsville High School Main Auditorium |
| Tribute to America | Scholarship benefit concert | Multiple dates | Not specified |
| Disney's Frozen KIDS | Youth production (30 minutes) | Multiple dates | Not specified |
Two things stand out for first-time attendees. First, performances are held at Strongsville High School venues rather than a dedicated theatre building, so check which space a given show uses. Second, the youth shows are deliberately short — Frozen KIDS runs about 30 minutes and SpongeBob: Youth Edition about an hour — which makes them practical for young children or a quick evening out.
The Jean Thom Scholarship
SCT awards the Jean Thom Theatre Arts Scholarship to Strongsville High School seniors pursuing a degree in the performing arts — theatre, music, or dance. For 2026, the organization announced two recipients, Gabriella Burlinghaus and Madeline Droste, each receiving $5,000. Burlinghaus plans to study Technical Theatre at Kent State University, and Droste plans to study Musical Theatre at Baldwin Wallace University.
The application window for the 2026 cycle closed on March 27, 2026. If you are a student or parent planning ahead, the practical takeaway is to watch the SCT site in late winter for the next application announcement and to confirm eligibility with your school counselor before the deadline.
How to attend or get involved
- Tickets: Each production listing on the SCT site includes a "Buy Tickets" link. The site does not publish prices, so check the individual show page or the ticketing link for current pricing and availability.
- Auditions and casting: Cast information is posted per show — for example, the SpongeBob youth production page highlights its cast. Watch the site for audition notices if you want to perform.
- Supporting the organization: The Tribute to America concert benefits the Jean Thom Scholarship Fund, so attending it directly supports local students.
- Staying informed: The homepage is organized around "Upcoming Shows," which is the fastest way to see what is currently on stage or open for tickets.
Who it is for
SCT suits three main audiences: families looking for short, accessible youth theatre; local audiences who want familiar scripts like Arsenic & Old Lace and Tuck Everlasting; and Strongsville High School seniors in the performing arts who need scholarship support. If you are outside the Strongsville area or looking for a year-round professional company, a regional theatre may fit better — SCT's schedule is built around a handful of productions per season at school venues.
