What Is TextWall?
Updated
TextWall is a browser-based multiplayer text editor: many people can type on the same shared "wall" at the same time, seeing each other's cursors, names, and chat messages as they go. You reach it at tw.2s4.me, and you can start typing on the global wall without an account — registering is only needed for things like reporting content, saving account settings, or managing your own wall.
How the shared editing works
A wall is a single shared text surface. When you open one, you see the text as it currently stands, plus the live presence of anyone else editing. The site exposes this through a set of view options rather than a fixed layout:
- Other cursors — show or hide where other people are typing.
- Name tags — display who is who.
- Chat — a side channel for messages, separate from the wall text itself.
- Typing feedback — an indicator when someone else is typing.
- Zoom and chunk fetching — control how much of a large wall is loaded and how close you view it.
The default landing experience is the Global wall, which shows a live status line (for example, "nobody is typing") when it's idle.
What you can customize
TextWall leans heavily into appearance and interaction settings. From the Options panel you can toggle:
| Category | Examples |
|---|---|
| Display | Show FPS, show ping, smooth panning, smooth cursors, round cursors |
| Identity | Show anonymous IDs, show display name, show name tags |
| Text | Font, custom font name, size, rainbow text, custom hue and speed |
| Color | Primary/secondary theme colors, copy colors, copy decorations, disable color |
| Chat | Dark chat, fade-in animation, clear chats, send typing indicator |
There's also a Legacy mode alongside custom settings, and a Custom Theme with primary and secondary colors.
Accounts, walls, and permissions
You can browse and type anonymously, but an account unlocks more control. Registration asks for a username and password (the site warns you not to forget it), and account settings let you change your username, change your password, or delete your account.
If you create or manage a wall, the Wall Settings include:
- Read-only — lock editing.
- Private and Unlisted — control who can find or open it.
- Registered users only — restrict participation.
- Hide cursors, Disable chat, Disable color, Disable braille — strip specific features.
- Enable webhook — with an API key; the site points you to
~textwall/webhooksfor usage instructions. - Add members and Delete wall — membership and removal, the latter flagged as dangerous.
Exploring and reporting
Explore lists public walls so you can discover content and search for specific walls. If something breaks the rules, the Report form takes a username or wall name plus a reason — but you must be logged in to submit a report.
The NSFW gate
Walls can be marked NSFW by their creator. When you open one, you get a warning that it "may contain content that is inappropriate for certain audiences," with I understand and No thanks buttons. This is a creator-set flag, not an automatic filter, so it reflects the wall owner's judgment rather than a site-wide rating.
Practical notes
- No pricing information is published on the page, so don't assume any tier is free or paid beyond what you can observe.
- The site itself warns that some fonts are low quality, which is worth knowing if you plan to rely on custom typography.
- An Admin section and a Misc section (including a "Load Eruda" debugging option) exist, but these are not part of the normal editing flow.
In short: TextWall is a lightweight, real-time collaborative text space with strong cosmetic controls and a public-wall discovery layer. Start on the Global wall to try it, then register only if you need reporting, saved settings, or your own managed wall.
