EnglishWhat Is The Dark Fortress Website?
Updated
The Dark Fortress (thedarkfortress.co.uk) is a fan-made resource site for the Dark Angels Space Marine Chapter in Warhammer 40K. According to the site itself, it is "a repository of information on the Dark Angels Space Marine Chapter" offering "tactics, galleries, banners and decals, reviews, hobby tips, army lists and more to help you get the best out of your Dark Angels and Unforgiven 40K wargaming." If you collect, paint, or play Dark Angels or Unforgiven armies, it is worth knowing what each section holds before you dig in.
Who it is for
The site targets Warhammer 40K players and hobbyists focused on the Dark Angels and their associated Unforgiven forces. It is a community resource rather than an official Games Workshop property, so expect fan-written content: tactics write-ups, hobby advice, and downloadable materials rather than official rules or product pages.
What the site covers
The homepage describes the scope directly: tactics, galleries, banners and decals, reviews, hobby tips, and army lists. The navigation breaks this into named sections:
| Section | What it holds |
|---|---|
| Headquarters | Latest site updates, news, legal and other site info |
| Bulletins | Front line bulletins from the Dark Fortress garrison |
| Tactica Reports | Tactics, company dispositions, orders of battle |
| Tech Reports | Comment, army lists, special scenarios and rules, game statistics, book and rule reviews |
| Librarium | Downloadable printable banners and decals, Dark Angels names and reference, link banners, links |
| Oratorium | Inspirational image galleries featuring Unforgiven models |
There is also a Bulletin Archive, an Augurium section, and a Connections area that lists ways to follow or support the site, including a Patreon link, email, RSS, Twitter, and Facebook.
How to use it
- Start at Headquarters if you want to know what has changed recently on the site.
- Go to Tactica Reports for tactics, company dispositions, and orders of battle.
- Use Tech Reports for army lists, special scenarios and rules, game statistics, and reviews of books and rules.
- Visit Librarium to download printable banners and decals, or to look up Dark Angels names and reference material.
- Browse Oratorium when you want visual inspiration from painted Unforgiven models.
The site also has a Site Map, an Article Submissions page, and standard legal pages (disclaimer, privacy, terms of use, advertising).
Things to keep in mind
- It is a fan resource, so treat tactics, army lists, and rules discussion as community opinion rather than official rulings.
- The downloadable banners and decals in the Librarium are described as printable, which makes them useful for hobby projects rather than in-game use.
- Some content is tied to the site's own community and update cycle, so check Headquarters or the Bulletin Archive for the current state of things.
- The site lists a Patreon as a way to support it; no pricing or access restrictions are stated in the available material, so do not assume any section is paywalled or free beyond what is described.
If your interest is specifically Dark Angels and Unforgiven army building, painting, or collecting reference material, The Dark Fortress is organized to put those things in one place.
