What Is the Difference Between ScotttS's Game Jam Games and Old Games?

Updated

ScotttS's itch.io page splits its browser games into two sections: Game Jam Games and Old Games. The practical difference is origin and era, not quality. Game Jam Games are short projects made for time-limited jam events, so they tend to be small, experimental, and quick to finish. Old Games are earlier standalone works, with the page's clearest example being a 2014 recreation of the Game Grumps' Grump Room. If you want a fast, rough-around-the-edges idea, start with the jam section. If you want to see earlier, more personal experiments, start with Old Games.

Game Jam Games: short, themed, event-driven

These games were built around a jam prompt or deadline, which shapes what you get:

  • Short sessions. 10 Second Mixtape (Jam Version) is described as making mini music with other players, and Track Beat is about straightening bent track parts before they reach your train — both are small, single-idea games.
  • Genre spread. The section includes puzzle (Fear of the Ungnome), interactive fiction (Introvertigo), action (Dante's Delivery Service, We Have to Go Deeper!), platformer (Final Flower: Petals of a Lost Age), rhythm (Track Beat), simulation (Hoarder's Paradise), survival (Paid in Blood, Camp Snuggle), and a platformer dating sim (Platform of Love).
  • Experimental tone. BioBullet displays the name and biography of everyone you kill, and Introvertigo is framed as escaping the chatter — ideas that fit a jam's freedom to try odd concepts.
  • Browser play. Each listing shows "Play in browser," so no download is needed.

Old Games: earlier standalone work

This section is smaller and clearly separated by date:

  • Cat Stack — an action game about stacking cats.
  • KeySmash — a local multiplayer game supporting up to 6 players on a single keyboard.
  • Game Grumps' Grump Room (2014) — an explorable model of the Grump Room, made in 2014.

The 2014 date is the strongest signal here: Old Games reach further back than the jam entries, and they read more like personal experiments than event submissions.

How to choose between them

If you want… Go to
A quick, one-idea game you can finish fast Game Jam Games
A specific genre (puzzle, rhythm, survival, dating sim) Game Jam Games
Local multiplayer on one keyboard Old Games (KeySmash)
A look at earlier, exploratory work Old Games
A fan-made explorable space Old Games (Grump Room)

Both sections are playable in the browser, so the split is about when and why each game was made, not about access. Browse Game Jam Games for variety and brevity; browse Old Games for a smaller, earlier slice of the same developer's work.
