Mopidy Discourse is the official discussion forum for Mopidy, an extensible music server, and for projects built around it. Its purpose is to give users, contributors, and extension developers one place to ask for help, share projects, propose ideas, and coordinate development. If you are running Mopidy, writing an extension, or maintaining a related project, this is where those conversations are meant to happen.
What the community is for
The forum exists to support the Mopidy ecosystem in a few concrete ways:
- Help and support — getting assistance with Mopidy itself and with Mopidy extensions.
- Show and tell — presenting projects related to Mopidy.
- Ideas — suggesting directions for Mopidy, its extensions, and projects built on top of it.
- Development — discussing work on Mopidy and extensions.
- Meta — questions about how the forum is organized and run.
In short, it is both a support channel and a place for the community to share what it is building.
Categories and where to post
The forum is divided into categories so that topics land in the right place. The table below summarizes them.

Two practical rules follow from this layout:
- Usage questions belong in Help and support, not in Development. Development is reserved for work on the code and extensions themselves.
- Avoid Misc for new topics. It used to be the main category, but the guidance is to create new topics in the more specific categories.
Why Pi MusicBox is read-only
Pi MusicBox was a Raspberry Pi distribution built on Mopidy. It has been unmaintained since 2022, so its category is kept as a read-only archive. You can still read the old threads, but you cannot start new topics there. If you need help with something Pi MusicBox-related today, the appropriate route is the general support categories rather than the archived one.
Forum rules and technical notes
The forum operates under its own Guidelines, Terms of Service, and Privacy Policy, which are linked from the site. These govern how members are expected to behave and how the service is run.
Technically, Mopidy Discourse is powered by Discourse, and the site notes that it is best viewed with JavaScript enabled. If the forum looks broken or incomplete in your browser, enabling JavaScript is the first thing to check.
How to use it well
- Pick the most specific category that matches your topic instead of defaulting to Misc.
- Keep usage questions in Help and support and development questions in Development.
- When showing a project, use Show and tell so others can find it.
- Check the Guidelines before posting if you are new, since they set expectations for the community.
