What Is Wavu Wiki?
Updated
Wavu Wiki is a community-editable game guide for Tekken 8, hosted at wavu.wiki. It focuses on competitive play — mechanics, movelists, strategy, and terminology — rather than series lore or tournament records. It is useful if you want frame data, notation-based move references, or explanations of systems like Heat, Rage, and Guard; it is not the place to look up character backstories or tournament brackets.
What Wavu Wiki covers
The wiki is organized around how the game actually works, not around narrative content. Its main sections include:
- Mechanics — Attack (Crush, Power crush), Backdash, Back turned, Controls, Crouch, Damage, Guard (Low parry), Heat, Input buffer, Jump (Jump tween), Parry, Ranked, Rage, Run, Sidestep, Special Style, Stage (Stage break), Stance, State, String, Throw, Training mode, Tween, Wall (Wall jump attack), Wake-up (Tech recovery).
- Concepts — Archetype, Body size, Cheese, Combo, Float, Frame (Frame advantage), Jargon, Movelist (Generic movelist), Notation, Punishment, Reacting, Standard move (Snake Edge, Slide), Tracking.
- Techniques — Backdash cancel, Button buffer, Crouch cancel, Fuzzy guard, Hit confirm, Instant while running, Instant while standing, Option select, Frame trap, Tech trap, Wave dash.
- Strategy — Counterhit fishing, Mixup, Movement (Dash block, Step block), Neutral, Okizeme, Poke, Pressure.
It also maintains character pages with movelists, a patch log, and a page listing all characters. The current Tekken 8 patch listed on the main page is Version 3.02.01 (2026-08-19), with earlier entries going back to Version 3.00.01 (2026-03-26). Tekken 7 patch history is also archived, from Version 5.10 (13 Dec 2022) back to Version 4.20 (27 May 2021).
Who it's for
Wavu Wiki assumes you are playing Tekken 8 and want to improve or look something up mid-session. Two things follow from that:
- You need the notation. The wiki states that notation is used extensively throughout, so learn it before reading move entries. If you are new, start with the tutorial page rather than jumping into a character movelist.
- It is editable by anyone. The main page describes contributing as "as easy as just doing it," and points to a Discord server and contributing guides (character pages, videos, video recording tutorial) for people who want to add or fix content.
How it differs from other Tekken wikis
Wavu Wiki explicitly notes it is not the only Tekken wiki, and the split is by purpose:
| Wiki | Focus |
|---|---|
| Wavu Wiki | Tekken 8 gameplay: mechanics, movelists, strategy, notation |
| Tekken Wiki (Fandom) | Lore, art, and development of every game in the series |
| Fighting Games Wiki (Liquipedia) | Tournaments and competitive players |
So if you want to know how a move behaves on block, use Wavu. If you want to know who a character is in the story, use Fandom. If you want event results or player pages, use Liquipedia.
Practical notes before you start
- Check the patch version. Frame data and move properties change between patches. The main page lists the latest Tekken 8 version, so confirm a page matches your current build before trusting a number.
- Use the training mode and movelist sections together. Wavu documents both the theory (frames, punishment, tracking) and the practice tools, which is the intended loop for learning a character.
- Expect gaps. As a community wiki, coverage varies by character and topic; the "Pages listing all characters" and patch pages are the fastest way to see what exists.
- Language. The wiki is in English.
