What KidInspector Can Monitor on Android, Windows and Mac

Updated

KidInspector reports different things depending on the platform. Android gives the broadest picture — location history, calls, SMS, messenger activity and live screen view — while Windows and macOS focus on apps, websites, traffic and screenshots. What you actually see also depends on the device model, the permissions you grant during setup, and the plan you choose, so treat the lists below as the ceiling rather than a guarantee.

Android: the fullest picture

Android is the platform to pick if your main concern is a child's phone. Beyond app and website activity, it reports location history, incoming SMS, the call log, messenger activity, the contact list and installed apps. It also supports app and website blocking, screenshots and live screen view.

This makes Android the right choice when the questions you expect to ask are "where were they?", "who contacted them?" and "what are they doing right now?" — things a desktop report can't answer.

Windows: activity on a PC

On a Windows PC, KidInspector reports apps in use, visited websites, traffic consumption, device activity and installed programs, plus activity statistics. It supports website blocking and screenshots, but not app blocking.

Choose Windows when the shared or monitored device is the family computer — homework, browsing, games — and you want a record of what was opened and how much traffic it used.

macOS: similar to Windows, with two differences

Mac reports apps in use, visited websites in supported browsers, location history, traffic consumption, device activity, installed programs and device statistics. It supports app and website blocking and screenshots, and adds text recognition on screenshots — useful when you want the content of a screenshot searchable rather than just an image.

Note the two places Mac differs from Windows: it includes location history, and it includes app blocking. Website history is limited to supported browsers, so check that your child's browser is covered before relying on it.

How to decide

  • Monitoring a phone → Android. It's the only platform with calls, SMS, contacts and live screen view.
  • Monitoring a family PC → Windows, if you need website history, screenshots and traffic figures.
  • Monitoring a Mac → macOS, especially if you want app blocking or searchable screenshot text.
  • Mixed household → one account covers all three, so you can install on each device type and read everything in the same web dashboard.

Before you install

KidInspector states that it should only be installed on devices you own, your child's devices, or a device you are legally entitled to monitor with the necessary consent. Setup requires granting permissions on the device, and the feature set depends on the plan — the site links to a pricing page, so confirm what your chosen plan includes before assuming a feature is available. The site also offers a demo you can view before signing up.
