What Kinds of Map Quizzes Does Seterra Offer?
Updated
Seterra organizes more than 400 map quizzes into two overlapping systems: by world region and by topic. If you want to drill U.S. state capitals, you go to the United States section and pick "State Capitals." If you want to learn African countries, you go to Africa and pick "Countries." The same topic (say, flags or major cities) reappears under multiple regions, so you can study at whatever geographic scale you need. The site also includes a small set of non-geography quizzes on anatomy, science, and the periodic table.
Quizzes by Region
Each regional section contains a mix of the same recurring topics, adapted to that part of the world.
| Region | Example quiz topics |
|---|---|
| United States | States, major cities, rivers, state flags, state capitals |
| North & Central America | Countries, capitals, lakes, provinces of Canada, the Caribbean, flags |
| South America | Countries, capitals, states of Brazil, regions in Chile, flags |
| Europe | Countries, capitals, major cities, rivers, mountains, flags |
| Asia | Countries, capitals, major cities, provinces of China, cities of India, flags |
| Africa | Countries, capitals, major cities, provinces of South Africa, flags |
| Australia & Oceania | Countries, states, major cities, flags |
| World | UN member states, continents, major cities, rivers, mountains, flags |
A few things worth noting from this structure:
- Sub-national divisions are included, not just countries. You can quiz yourself on Canadian provinces, Brazilian states, Chilean regions, Chinese provinces, Indian cities, and South African provinces.
- Physical geography sits alongside political geography. Rivers and mountains appear as their own quiz topics in several regions, separate from countries and capitals.
- Flags are a recurring category across nearly every region, including state flags for the U.S.
Quizzes by Topic
If you'd rather study one topic globally, the topic-based groupings cut across regions:
- Countries — by continent or as UN member states worldwide
- Capitals — paired with the country quizzes
- Major cities — for the U.S., Europe, Asia, Africa, Australia & Oceania, and the world
- Rivers and mountains — Europe, Asia, and world
- Flags — every region plus U.S. state flags
- States, provinces, and regions — U.S. states, Canadian provinces, Brazilian states, Chilean regions, Chinese provinces, South African provinces, Australian states
Non-Geography Quizzes
Seterra also hosts a set of anatomy and science quizzes, including:
- Organs
- Bones
- Brain
- Ear, eye, and skin
- Heart
- The periodic table
These follow the same quiz format as the geography content, so if you're already using the site for map practice, the science quizzes are in the same place.
How to Choose Where to Start
- Studying for a specific class or exam? Go to the region first, then pick the topic (e.g., Europe → Capitals).
- Want broad world knowledge? Start with World → UN Member States or World → Continents, then branch into regions.
- Learning a country's internal geography? Look for the sub-national quizzes (U.S. states, Chinese provinces, Brazilian states, etc.).
- Not sure what you need? Browse the full quiz list — the site's "Browse the quizzes" section lays out every region and topic in one view.
The site is playable for free and works on mobile, so you can try a quiz in any category before committing to a study plan.
