What pregnancy information does Tommy's provide?
Updated
Tommy's provides midwife-led pregnancy information across the whole journey, from planning a pregnancy through to birth and the first weeks after. The site is aimed at anyone planning a pregnancy, currently pregnant, or supporting someone who is, and the content is free to browse. The main sections are Planning a pregnancy, Being pregnant, Giving birth, and After the birth, with a separate Baby loss support area for people who have experienced loss.
Planning a pregnancy
This section is for people who are trying to conceive or thinking about it. It includes:
- Planning for Pregnancy Tool — a guided tool that helps you review health and lifestyle factors before conception.
- Ovulation calculator — helps estimate your fertile window.
- Ready to conceive? and Getting pregnant guidance.
- Fertility information.
- Health conditions and Mental health and wellbeing topics relevant to preparing for pregnancy.
Use these if you are not yet pregnant and want to understand what to do before conceiving. If you are already pregnant, the Being pregnant section is the better starting point.
Being pregnant
This is the core week-by-week section. It includes:
| Tool or topic | What it helps with |
|---|---|
| Personalised pregnancy support | Tailored information based on your pregnancy |
| Due date calculator | Estimating your due date |
| Pregnancy week by week | What to expect at each stage |
| Health and wellbeing | Looking after yourself during pregnancy |
| Antenatal care | Understanding appointments and care |
| Pregnancy and work | Managing work alongside pregnancy |
| Complications | Information on pregnancy complications |
| Symptom checker | Checking whether a symptom needs attention |
The Symptom checker is a useful first stop if something feels off, but it is general information, not a diagnosis. For urgent concerns, contact your maternity team or emergency services rather than relying on the site.
Giving birth and after the birth
The Giving birth section covers:
- Preparing for birth
- Your choices during labour and birth
- Signs of labour
- C-sections
- Premature birth
The After the birth section covers:
- Your new baby
- Sleep and Feeding
- Your body and Your wellbeing after birth
These sections are most useful in the third trimester and the first weeks postpartum, when practical decisions about birth and newborn care come up.
Talking to a midwife and reading pregnancy stories
Tommy's offers a Talk to a midwife service, so you can ask questions directly rather than only reading pages. There is also a Pregnancy stories section where people share their experiences, and a Helpline for Black women listed under health professionals.
Use Talk to a midwife when your question is specific to your situation and the general pages do not answer it. Use Pregnancy stories when you want to hear how others experienced a similar stage or complication.
Baby loss support
If you are looking for support after a loss, the Baby loss support section covers Miscarriage, Ectopic pregnancy, Molar pregnancy, Terminating for medical reasons, and Stillbirth, along with a Miscarriage Support Tool and a Wellbeing after Miscarriage programme. This is separate from the pregnancy information sections and is the right place to start if your question is about loss rather than an ongoing pregnancy.
How to get the most from the site
- Start with your stage. Planning, pregnant, giving birth, or after birth — each has its own section in the main navigation.
- Use the calculators and tools first if you need a due date, ovulation window, or a pre-conception check.
- Read the week-by-week page for your current week to see what applies now.
- Check the symptom checker for new symptoms, then contact your maternity team if concerned.
- Ask a midwife through the site when general information is not enough.
The site also offers Other languages and a Newsletter sign up, which are useful if English is not your first language or you want updates.
