What projects are featured on Noah Doersing's website?

Updated

Noah Doersing's site lists three projects in its Projects section: Rammertblick (a directory of places to see in the Rammert, a forested hill range in Southern Germany), osm2svg4art (a tool that turns OpenStreetMap roads and paths into color-coded SVG art for pen plotting), and nyum (a Pandoc-powered static site generator for recipe collections). The page also points to his open-source work on Codeberg and older material on GitHub, plus separate pages for generative art, photography, and a CV.

Rammertblick

Status: pending release, with a landing/teaser page already live. The site describes a target of roughly mid-2026 for the mostly complete version, to be published as a static site under an open license.

What it is: A directory of things to see in the Rammert, the forested hill range near where Doersing lives. He describes the area as good for long walks and full of small huts, springs, wayside shrines, small monuments, landmark trees, and boundary stones.

Why it exists: He frames it as a combination of his interests in walking, photography, coding, web design, and local history. The content is in German.

One practical note from the page: while taking a photograph for the project, he picked up a tick (along with borrelia bacteria) and needed a course of antibiotics a month later — a reminder that field photography in this kind of terrain carries real-world risks.

osm2svg4art

Status: 2025, described as a tiny single-page application with a live link to try it.

What it does: Given an address, it retrieves nearby roads and paths from OpenStreetMap via the Overpass API and converts them into an artsy, color-coded SVG representation.

What the output is for: The SVG is meant to be plotted on an AxiDraw pen plotter. It was originally built for #ptpx2024, a pen plotter postcard exchange — the page shows the tool running on a laptop alongside one of the plotted postcards.

When it's useful: if you want a plotter-ready, stylized map of a specific address rather than a literal cartographic rendering.

nyum

Status: 2021–now, described as ongoing.

What it is: A simple static site generator for a user's recipe collection, powered by Pandoc.

Who it's for: someone who keeps recipes in plain files and wants a generated site rather than a hosted recipe platform.

Other work linked from the site

The Projects section is not the whole picture. The About text also points to:

  • Open-source projects on Codeberg, with older work on GitHub.
  • Generative art made with software and hardware, shown on its own page.
  • Photography, particularly of birds, published on a site he calls Rarefied Pixels, plus films of birds.
  • A blog, Excessively Adequate, covering programming and adjacent topics — the page names posts on infinite Bash history, adjusting a Mac's system volume from the command line, drawing the Sierpiński Triangle with recursive SQL and SVG, and isomorphisms between integers and some composite types in Haskell.
  • OpenStreetMap contributions, which connect directly to the osm2svg4art tool.

How to decide what to look at

If you want… Go to
A plotter-ready artistic map of an address osm2svg4art
A lightweight static site generator for recipes nyum
Local history and walking information for the Rammert (German) Rammertblick teaser page
Code to read or reuse Codeberg (current), GitHub (older)
Writing on programming topics Excessively Adequate blog
Bird photography Rarefied Pixels

One caveat: Rammertblick is explicitly unfinished, so treat the teaser page as a preview rather than a usable directory. The other two projects are presented as available now.
