What Sacraments Are Available at St. John the Apostle Parish?
Updated
St. John the Apostle Parish (sjaparish.ca) in Kerrisdale, Vancouver lists two sacraments with published schedules: the Mass (Eucharist) and Confession (Reconciliation). The site's "Receive the Sacraments" section points to these liturgies, and the parish also publishes Adoration hours for private prayer. For sacraments without a published schedule — such as Baptism, Marriage, or Anointing of the Sick — the site directs you to contact the parish directly rather than booking online.
The Mass (Eucharist)
The Mass is the center of parish life here, and the weekend schedule is published in full:
| Day | Time | Language |
|---|---|---|
| Saturday | 4:00 pm | Cantonese |
| Saturday | 5:30 pm | — |
| Sunday | 9:00 am | — |
| Sunday | 11:00 am | — |
| Sunday | 5:30 pm | — |
| Every 3rd Sunday | 3:00 pm | Mandarin |
Weekday Mass runs Monday to Saturday at 8:00 am, moving to 9:00 am on holidays.
If you cannot attend in person, the parish streams Mass on its YouTube channel: https://bit.ly/SJAParishVancouver
Confession (Reconciliation)
Confession is available 20 minutes before weekend Masses and 15 minutes before weekday Masses, held in the church. You can also arrange it by appointment.
To book an appointment or ask about Confession, contact Father Paul Chu at [email protected].
Preparing for Confession
The parish provides an Examination of Conscience to help you prepare:

Adoration and Private Prayer
Beyond the two scheduled sacraments, the parish church and grotto are open for private prayer daily from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. There is also a Holy Hour on Friday from 8:30 am to 9:30 am.
What to Do If You Need Another Sacrament
The published schedule covers Mass and Confession only. For Baptism, Marriage, Anointing of the Sick, or any other sacramental need, the site does not post times or forms — the practical step is to email the parish office or Father Paul Chu directly and ask about arrangements.
