What Sections and Topics Can Readers Find on LBCC Viking News?

Updated

LBCC Viking News (lbccviking.com) is the student-run news publication of Long Beach City College. Its content is organized into five main sections — News, Sports, Lifestyle, Opinion, and Small Sounds Podcast — plus About and Contact pages. If you want campus reporting, athletic results, or Long Beach community features written by students, this is where to look.

Main sections at a glance

Section What it covers
News Campus incidents, events, and student government
Sports LBCC athletic results and game coverage
Lifestyle Local events and community features
Opinion Student commentary and columns
Small Sounds Podcast Audio content produced by the publication

News

This is the section for campus and safety reporting. Recent coverage includes an LBCC student struck by a car that ran a red light while crossing Carson St. at the Liberal Arts Campus, a construction worker taken by ambulance after an injury at the LAC campus, and a piece reflecting on unity a quarter-century after 9/11. It also covers crime near campus, such as two separate shootings near the TTC campus, and student government activity — for example, ASB holding a special election that did not receive applications for four of five open positions.

Sports

Sports carries LBCC team results and match reporting. One recent example is the LBCC men's soccer team's 5-1 win over MiraCosta College.

Lifestyle

Lifestyle focuses on local events and community features around Long Beach. Examples include a Batman Day turnout at the comic shop Pulp Fiction Long Beach, the Belmont Shore Car Show, the Special Olympics Plane Pull that raised more than $267,000, and the 3rd Annual September Showers donation drive supporting student parents through Basic Needs, CARE, CalWorks, and the Student Parent Hub.

Opinion and Small Sounds Podcast

Opinion hosts student-written commentary, while Small Sounds Podcast is the publication's audio section. Both sit alongside the reporting sections in the main navigation.

How to move around the site

The top navigation lists Home, News, Sports, Lifestyle, Small Sounds Podcast, Opinion, About, and Contact, with Log In and Search also available. A "Trending Now" block surfaces the most-read stories, and the site links out to Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, and YouTube. If you are looking for a specific story rather than browsing, the Search function is the fastest route; if you want to know who produces the paper, start with About.
