What to Do If You Don't Receive the OTP When Subscribing to Red Hat Status
Updated
If the OTP (one-time password) doesn't arrive while subscribing to Red Hat Status updates, first use the Resend OTP link on the subscription form and wait for the countdown timer to finish before requesting again. If it still doesn't arrive, re-check the email address or phone number and country code you entered, then look in your spam folder or contact your carrier. The form itself confirms the code is sent by email or text message, but it does not state a delivery time, so a short delay is possible.
How the OTP step works
The subscription form on status.redhat.com collects an email address or a phone number with a country code, then asks you to enter an OTP. The page shows a Resend OTP in: seconds countdown, which means a new code can only be requested after the timer runs out. The form is protected by reCAPTCHA, and the page links to Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
This tells you two things:
- The code is generated and sent by the status page platform, not by your email or phone provider.
- Repeated requests before the timer ends are blocked by design, so clicking Resend early does nothing.
Step-by-step checks
- Wait for the countdown, then resend. Note the seconds remaining next to "Resend OTP in" and click Resend OTP only after it reaches zero. Requesting too early is the most common reason nothing appears to happen.
- Confirm the destination. For email, check the exact address for typos and that it's the inbox you can open now. For text messages, confirm the phone number and that the selected country code matches the number — the dropdown lists codes from Afghanistan (+93) upward, so a wrong country code sends the code to a different number.
- Check spam and filters. If you chose email, look in spam, junk, and quarantine folders, and make sure your provider isn't blocking automated notifications.
- Check carrier delivery for SMS. If you chose text messages, confirm the number can receive short codes and that your carrier isn't filtering automated messages.
- Start the subscription again if needed. Re-enter the address or number and request a fresh code rather than reusing an old one.
If the code still doesn't arrive
The page doesn't publish a support contact or a stated delivery window for OTPs, so there's no official troubleshooting channel listed there. In practice, try a different destination — for example, switch from SMS to email or the reverse — since the form supports both. If neither works, the issue is likely on the delivery side (mail filtering or carrier blocking) rather than with the status page.
What you get once subscribed
After the OTP is accepted, you can receive email notifications whenever Red Hat creates, updates, or resolves an incident, and text message notifications when Red Hat creates or resolves an incident. Note the difference: SMS subscribers don't get the "update" notifications that email subscribers do. Past incidents remain viewable on the site under Past Incidents whether or not you subscribe.
