What to Do When Augmented Steam Is Not Working
Updated
Augmented Steam is a free browser extension that improves browsing and shopping on Steam, so when it stops working the first things to check are whether the extension is still enabled in your browser, whether you are actually on a Steam page, and whether the extension or browser needs an update. Most failures trace back to one of those three causes, and reinstalling is the reliable last resort.
Confirm the extension is enabled and running
An extension that is installed but disabled behaves exactly like one that is broken.
- Open your browser's extensions page (for example
chrome://extensionsin Chrome-based browsers, or the Add-ons manager in Firefox). - Find Augmented Steam in the list and check that its toggle is on.
- Look for any error badge or "corrupted"/"needs permission" warning next to it.
- If the browser recently updated, it may have disabled the extension pending a permission re-approval — accept the prompt if one appears.
Expected result: the extension shows as enabled with no warning icons.
Check that you are on a page it can act on
Augmented Steam modifies Steam pages, so it has nothing to do on unrelated sites. If the interface looks unchanged, first verify you are on a Steam domain (store, community, or a game page) rather than a third-party key reseller or a cached copy.
Also try a hard reload of the page (Ctrl+F5 or Cmd+Shift+R). Extensions inject their changes when the page loads, so a page that was already open before you enabled the extension will not show any changes until it reloads.
Update the extension and the browser
Version mismatches are a common cause of silent failure, especially after a Steam layout change.
- Update the extension from your browser's extension store page.
- Update the browser itself, then restart it fully (close all windows, not just the tab).
- If the extension has not been updated in a long time, check its store listing for a recent release; if the listing shows it is no longer maintained, that itself explains breakage after Steam changes.
Rule out conflicts with other extensions
Other Steam-related or script-blocking extensions can interfere.
- Disable all other extensions temporarily.
- Reload a Steam page and see whether Augmented Steam now works.
- If it does, re-enable the others one at a time to find the conflict.
Privacy tools and content blockers are frequent culprits because they may block the requests the extension relies on. If that is the case, allowlist the Steam domain in the blocker rather than disabling it entirely.
Reinstall as the reliable fix
If the steps above do not help, a clean reinstall resolves most remaining cases:
- Remove Augmented Steam from your browser.
- Restart the browser.
- Reinstall it from the official store listing.
- Reload a Steam page and confirm the added interface elements appear.
Reinstalling also clears any corrupted local settings that could be causing the failure.
Quick reference
| Symptom | Likely cause | First action |
|---|---|---|
| No changes on any Steam page | Extension disabled or removed | Check extensions page, re-enable |
| Works on some pages only | Wrong page type or stale tab | Reload on a Steam domain |
| Broke after a browser update | Permissions reset | Re-approve permissions |
| Broke after a Steam redesign | Outdated extension | Update, or check if maintained |
| Worked, then stopped | Conflict with another extension | Disable others, test one by one |
| Nothing else works | Corrupted install | Uninstall and reinstall |
If the extension is current, enabled, and still failing on a normal Steam page with other extensions disabled, the problem is most likely on the extension's side after a Steam change — in that case, waiting for an update is the practical option.
