What to Prepare Before Using the NSP Forwarder Generator

Updated

To use the NSP Forwarder Generator at nsp-forwarder.n8.io, you need two things above all: the NRO file you want to forward, and your prod.keys file. The generator also asks for a logo image (or you can pick one from its built-in options), and it lets you fill in metadata like version, Title ID, app title, publisher, and NRO path. Optional extras include a startup animation and toggles for screenshots, video capture, profile selector, and the svcDebug flag. Gather these before you start so you can complete the form in one pass.

Required inputs

The NRO file

This is the homebrew application you want to launch from the Switch home menu. The page's first control is "Click to select NRO or image file…", so the NRO is the primary input. Have it saved somewhere you can browse to from your browser's file picker.

Your prod.keys file

The generator has a dedicated field: "Click to select your prod.keys file…". This is a separate file from the NRO and is selected independently. Make sure you have it on hand before starting — the form won't be complete without it.

Logo and animation

Logo

You can either upload your own logo image or use the "Select logo…" option to choose from what the generator provides. If you want custom branding on the home menu entry, prepare a logo image in advance.

Startup animation (optional)

There's a "Select startup animation…" control. This is optional — skip it if you don't need a custom boot animation.

Metadata fields

The generator exposes several text fields you'll need to fill in or confirm:

Field What it's for
Version Version string for the forwarder
Title ID Identifier for the title; the page also offers a "Random" option
App Title The name shown for the app
Publisher Publisher name shown in the metadata
NRO Path Path to the NRO on the Switch
Text above logo Caption text displayed above your logo

If you don't have a specific Title ID in mind, the "Random" control can generate one for you.

Optional toggles

The generator includes checkboxes you can enable depending on what you want the forwarder to support:

  • Enable screenshots
  • Enable video capture
  • Enable profile selector
  • Enable svcDebug flag

Decide which of these you need before generating, since they affect the resulting NSP.

What happens when you generate

Once the NRO, prod.keys, logo, metadata, and any optional settings are in place, you click Generate NSP. The page produces the forwarder NSP from those inputs.

The page does not state any pricing or login requirement, so treat access terms as unconfirmed rather than assuming it's free or open.
