What video, audio, and container output formats does Hybrid support?
Updated
Hybrid is a Qt-based frontend that can convert most input formats to common audio and video formats and containers. It is aimed at advanced users who already understand containers and video formats, not at people who need a wizard-like interface. If you know the basics, the lists below tell you exactly what you can produce.
Video output formats
| Output format | Encoders listed |
|---|---|
| MPEG-4 ASP | Xvid |
| MPEG-4 AVC | x264, qsvencc, nvencc, vceencc, ffmpeg nvenc |
| VP8 / VP9 | vpxenc |
| ProRes | ffmpeg |
| MPEG-4 HEVC | x265, kvazaar, DivX265, nvencc, qsvencc, vceencc, ffmpeg nvenc |
| FFV1 | ffmpeg |
| UT video | ffmpeg |
| FFvHuff | ffmpeg |
| AV1 | aomenc, rav1e |
The encoder names matter because they determine what hardware or software path is used. For example, qsvencc, nvencc, and vceencc point to Intel, NVIDIA, and AMD hardware encoding respectively, while x264, x265, and aomenc are software encoders.
Audio output formats
Hybrid supports encoding to:
- DTS
- AC-3
- Ogg Vorbis
- MP3
- AAC
- FLAC
- PCM
- Opus
It also supports audio pass-through, so you can keep an existing audio stream without re-encoding it.
For AAC specifically, several encoders are available: qaac, FDK AAC, faac, fhg, and neroaacenc. Audio encoding overall can run through dcaenc, MEncoder, FFmpeg, Aften, and different AAC encoders.
Containers
Hybrid can output to:
- mov
- mp4
- mkv
- m2ts
- webm
- avi
- Blu-ray structure
- AVCHD structure
What this means in practice
Because Hybrid supports both audio/video pass-through and muxing, you can use it purely to remux, tag, or edit chapters without touching the encoded streams. Tagging is supported for avi, mkv, mp4, and mov; chapter support covers mkv, mp4, and Blu-ray; subtitle support covers mkv, mp4, and Blu-ray.
If your target is, say, an AV1 video with Opus audio inside a webm container, all three pieces are covered. If you need a Blu-ray or AVCHD structure instead, that is also a listed output. The main constraint is not the format list but your own familiarity with the settings, since Hybrid assumes you already know what these formats and containers are for.
