What's New in 4DO Emulator 1.3.2.4?

Updated

4DO Emulator 1.3.2.4 is a maintenance release that fixes core freezes, improves graphics in several titles, adds a "Scale Mode" display option, and introduces Anvil BIOS support for some European-region games. It is relevant if you run the Panasonic 3DO emulator on PC, Linux, or Android and have hit freezes or graphical glitches in the affected titles.

Core freeze fixes (Clio)

The release addresses freezes tied to updates in the core Clio component. According to the release notes, known freezes were fixed in:

  • 3DO Interactive Sampler CD
  • The 3DO Interactive Sampler CD 2
  • The 3DO Interactive Sampler CD 3
  • The 3DO Interactive Sampler CD 4
  • The Panasonic REAL 3DO Interactive Multiplayer Sampler
  • Twisted – The Game Show (also fixed a long boot time)
  • Killing Time 2.2 Alpha

The notes add that these fixes "may affect other games too," so the change is not necessarily limited to the titles listed.

Graphical fixes

Three games received targeted visual corrections:

Game Fix
Microcosm Start screens fixed; game now described as 100% playable
Alone In The Dark Fonts fixed — text on books and similar elements is now readable
Dinopark Tycoon Minor graphical fixes, but not yet 100%

New "Scale Mode" option

A new option called Scale Mode was added. It enlarges the image, described in the notes as behaving like NTSC consoles. This is a display setting, so it changes how the output is scaled rather than altering emulation accuracy.

Anvil BIOS support

Support for anvil-bios was added, along with emulation of the Anvil chip. The notes state this is needed to run some games from the European region. If a European title previously failed to boot, this is the change to check first.

How to get the update

The release lists two download formats:

  • Installer: 4DO_1.3.2.4_Install.exe
  • Zip file: 4DO_1.3.2.4.zip

Both are also reachable through the project's download page (4DO Downloads). The site describes 4DO as an open-source, low-level 3DO emulator for PC, Linux, and Android, based on the FreeDO source code.

What to check after updating

  • If you were hitting freezes in the sampler CDs, Twisted, or Killing Time, retest those first — that is the primary fix in this build.
  • If text in Alone In The Dark was unreadable, confirm the font fix on books and similar screens.
  • If you play European-region titles, verify whether anvil-bios resolves your boot issue.
  • If the image looks too small, try the new Scale Mode option.

Note that the release notes do not list pricing or licensing terms for downloads, so check the download page directly for those details.
