What's On at SIGMA? Upcoming Meetings and Events

Updated

SIGMA (Moray's Astronomy Club) meets on the first Friday of the month at Alves Village Hall, with doors opening at 7pm for a 7.30pm start. The club publishes a programme of forthcoming meetings, and your first meeting is free — so you can try before you buy. The current programme lists two confirmed dates for late 2026.

Forthcoming Meetings

Date Event Speaker / Format
Friday 6 November 2026 Debunking the Apollo Moon Hoax Theory Dr Ken MacTaggart FBIS, Highlands Astronomical Society
Friday 4 December 2026 Christmas Quiz Club event

Both entries are drawn from the club's 2026 Programme. The November talk is a guest presentation from the Highlands Astronomical Society; the December meeting is the club's Christmas Quiz.

When and Where

  • Frequency: First Friday of the month, unless otherwise specified.
  • Venue: Alves Village Hall.
  • Timing: Doors open at 7pm, meeting starts at 7.30pm.

Because the club notes that meetings run on the first Friday "unless otherwise specified," it is worth checking the programme before travelling, particularly around holiday periods such as December.

Attending Your First Meeting

Your first meeting is free, so there is no commitment to join before you attend. If you decide to become a member afterwards, membership enquiries go to the Membership Secretary at [email protected], or via the club's Membership Information page.

A further benefit noted on the site: SIGMA members can also attend meetings of the Highlands Astronomical Society (HAS).

Staying Up to Date

The programme can change, and the club posts news and updates through several channels:

  • X (Twitter) and Facebook — for latest news and announcements.
  • YouTube — the SIGMA YouTube Channel.
  • Flickr — club members' images, including the "Images of the Moment" gallery.

Following one of these channels is the most reliable way to catch late additions or changes to the meeting schedule.
