What to Expect Beyond Weekly Meetings

The Tuesday meeting is the troop's regular gathering, but it is not the only activity on the calendar. Troop 449 also runs monthly weekend trips — camping, backpacking, skiing, canoeing, and more — and spends a week at Scouting summer camp each year. If you are considering joining, a weekly meeting is the simplest first step: you can see how a meeting runs and ask about upcoming trips in person.

Who to Contact

The troop has separate Scoutmasters for its boys troop and girls troop:

  • Tom Fischer — boys troop
  • Katie Kross — girls troop

Troop 449 invites both boys and girls to join, and its members are part of the Eno River District of the Occoneechee Council of the Boy Scouts of America.

Practical Notes for a First Visit

  • Check the day before you go. The published schedule is Tuesday evenings, but it is worth confirming with a Scoutmaster that a meeting is being held that week, especially around holidays or school breaks.
  • Arrive a few minutes early. The meeting window is 75 minutes, so arriving just before 7:30pm gives you time to introduce yourself before things get underway.
  • Ask about the next weekend trip. Monthly outings are a core part of the troop experience, and meeting night is the easiest time to learn what is coming up and what gear or preparation is involved.

The troop's own invitation is straightforward: come to the next meeting, or reach out to one of the Scoutmasters for more information.
