Where can I download MacVim and find its documentation?
Updated
MacVim is available from its official site at macvim.org, which links to the current stable download, release notes, pre-release builds, GitHub source, and documentation. The stable release listed there is r183, and it requires macOS 10.13 or later; a separate download is provided for macOS 10.9–10.12.
Download MacVim
The official page presents the main download first, then alternatives for older systems and test builds.
| What you want | Where it's linked from | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Current stable release | macvim.org main download | Release notes shown as r183 |
| macOS 10.9–10.12 build | "download here" link on macvim.org | For systems below the 10.13 requirement |
| Pre-release beta builds and other versions | "Download pre-release beta builds or other versions here" | Use if you want to test newer code |
| Binary releases and release notes | Releases link | Version history and packaged builds |
| Source code | GitHub: MacVim GitHub page | The project is maintained by macvim-dev |
If you're on macOS 10.13 or later, take the main download. Only follow the older-system link if your Mac runs 10.9–10.12, since the current build won't run there.
Documentation and help resources
macvim.org links directly to four support destinations:
- Documentation — the MacVim documentation, for configuration and usage reference.
- FAQ — answers to frequently asked questions.
- Troubleshooting — how to track down the source of common problems.
- Debugging — how to generate a debug log.
A sensible order when something goes wrong: check the FAQ first, then Troubleshooting, and generate a debug log only if the problem isn't covered, since that log is what you'd need when reporting an issue.
About the project
MacVim is a port of the Vim text editor that integrates with macOS as a native app. It is maintained by macvim-dev, and the site itself is generated with GitHub Pages.
