Where Myth Fans Can Play Online and Find Mods
Updated
Myth.Bungie.Org is an archive of information and fan-generated content for Bungie's Myth series of real-time tactical games — Myth: The Fallen Lords, Myth II: Soulblighter, and Take-Two's Myth III: The Wolf Age. It is not itself a game server or download host. For actually playing online and for mods, the site points to separate community-run destinations: Bagrada.net and Gate of Storms for metaservers (game lobbies), and The Tain for mods and enhancements. Myth.Bungie.Org also runs its own forums for story, strategy, mod-making, and miscellany.
Playing Online: Metaservers
Two fan-operated metaservers act as the game lobbies for Myth multiplayer:
| Metaserver | What it offers |
|---|---|
| Bagrada.net | Rank-tracking and more modern features than Gate of Storms |
| Gate of Storms | Fan-operated metaserver (game lobby) |
If you want matchmaking with rank tracking and a more current feature set, Bagrada.net is the one the archive describes as more modern. Gate of Storms is the alternative lobby. Both are run by fans, not by Bungie.
Mods and Enhancements: The Tain
The Tain is the file archive for fan-created mods and enhancements to Myth content. Its scope is large — the archive notes it hosts numerous projects "the size of full games themselves." It also hosts more active community forums than the main site's own boards, so if you want current mod discussion, that is where the activity is.
Engine Updates and Modern Builds: Project Magma
Project Magma is the volunteer development team for the Myth engine. Through them you can get:
- A demo of Myth II for modern operating systems
- Engine updates for Myth II
- Myth: Twice Born Edition — a comprehensive collection of high-resolution sprites
- Myth: The Fallen Lords Deluxe Edition — a reimagining of the original updated to Myth II's newer, higher standards
One practical caveat from the archive: for full copies of the games, you'll have to find them used. Project Magma distributes a demo and engine work, not the complete commercial games.
Lore, Story, and Reference Material
If your interest is the fiction rather than multiplayer, the site's flagship Legends & Lore section holds:
- An archive of the Journals (pregame narration) from all three games
- Corresponding Field Guides showing notable sights for each level
- A selection of Relics — extra sources of story information
- A collection of Delusions — fan theories from staff and readers
- An Encyclopedia compiling details of the Myth world
Mythmaster Central
Taking inspiration from Marathon's Vidmaster Central, this section covers advanced play:
- An Introduction to Mythmastery
- The official Seven Laws of Mythmastery
- A comprehensive Film Archive (the centerpiece of the section)
- Detailed Tips & Tricks for mastering each level
- Profiles of The Myth Masters, the most notable contributors
Discussion and History
- Forums on Myth.Bungie.Org cover story, strategy, mod-making, and miscellany.
- A News Archive preserves over a decade of news from the heyday of the Myth fandom.
- A Miscellaneous section collects odds and ends that don't warrant their own sections.
