Where to Browse JNU's Schools, Centres and Faculty Directory

Updated

On the official JNU website (jnu.ac.in), the Academics menu is the starting point for schools and centres, and the Faculty menu is the starting point for the faculty directory. The Academics menu lists "Schools & Centres," deans and chairpersons, and academic programmes; the Faculty menu offers a faculty directory, a profile proforma, and search by school or centre. The site also publishes an academic calendar and programme list, and a separate page for professors emeritus and former vice chancellors.

Schools and centres

Open the Academics menu and choose Schools & Centres. The site presents the schools and special centres as a list, with separate links for deans and chairpersons of special centres, and for centre chairpersons. This is where you confirm which school or centre a programme belongs to before you look for its faculty.

Academic management

The same menu area links to Deans & Special Centre's Chairpersons, Centre's Chairpersons, and Advisors, Co-ordinators and Chairpersons. Use these pages when you need to know who heads a school or centre, for example before writing an enquiry about a research programme.

Faculty directory

The Faculty menu contains:

  • Faculty Directory — the main listing of teaching staff.
  • Profile Proforma (online) — the form used for faculty profiles.
  • Faculty Search by School/Centre — narrows the directory to one school or centre.

A practical route is to search by school or centre first, then open individual profiles. The Library menu also links to JNU IRINS – Faculty Profile, a separate faculty profile system, which is useful when you want publication-oriented information rather than the basic directory entry.

Common sticking points

  • Two faculty entry points. The Faculty Directory and JNU IRINS are different systems; a person may appear in one and be incomplete in the other, so check both before concluding someone is not listed.
  • Menu labels are literal. The site uses "Schools & Centres," "Deans & Special Centre's Chairpersons," and "Faculty Search by School/Centre" as written; search for those exact phrases if you land on the home page.
  • Admission pages are separate. Prospectuses and admission notices sit under Admissions, not Academics, so programme eligibility details are not on the schools and centres pages.

For a quick orientation, start at Academics → Schools & Centres to identify the right unit, then use Faculty → Faculty Search by School/Centre to reach its staff.
