Where to Download AviSynth Builds Listed on the Wiki
Updated
The Avisynth wiki (avisynth.nl) is documentation, not a download host — it links out to the actual download locations. For most users today, the recommended path is AviSynth+, which the wiki lists under "Current Builds" with new features, backward compatibility, and native support for Unix-like operating systems. Download links point to the wiki page, the project homepage at avs-plus.net, and the latest release on GitHub. The older official and unofficial v2.6.0 builds (32-bit ST and MT) are marked Deprecated and are hosted at SourceForge.
Current builds: AviSynth+
The wiki's "Download AviSynth" section separates current from deprecated builds. Under Current Builds it lists AviSynth+ and points to three places:
- Wiki page — the AviSynth+ documentation page on avisynth.nl
- Homepage — avs-plus.net
- Latest release — GitHub releases
- Discussion — forum.doom9.org
If you want the actively maintained version, start with the GitHub release page or avs-plus.net. The wiki page is where you read about it, not where the binary lives.
Deprecated builds: 2.6.0
The wiki still lists the older builds, but flags them as deprecated:
| Build | Notes | Host |
|---|---|---|
| Official v2.6.0 ST | 32-bit, single-threaded | SourceForge |
| Unofficial v2.6.0 MT | 32-bit, multi-threaded | SourceForge |
These remain available for legacy scripts or plugins that depend on the 2.6 API, but they are not the version to choose for a new setup.
How to pick
- New project, modern plugins, or a Unix-like OS → AviSynth+ from GitHub or avs-plus.net.
- Existing script or plugin that requires the 2.6 API → the deprecated 2.6.0 build from SourceForge, accepting that it is 32-bit and no longer current.
- Just reading up before installing → the wiki's "New to AviSynth – Start Here" pages (Your first script, Getting started, Grammar, Filter introduction, Script examples, FAQ) are the entry points.
A note on the wiki itself
avisynth.nl is a community-maintained documentation site, hosted since around 2010. The wiki states that hosting costs money and asks for donations via Buy Me a Coffee or PayPal — this is a request to support the site, not a paywall on the software. AviSynth itself is described on the wiki as free open-source software under GPLv2.
