Where to Download Purpur, Read the Docs, and Support Development

Updated

PurpurMC provides three separate downloads — Purpur (the server software), PurpurExtras (a plugin), and PurpurPacks (a set of datapacks) — and each project page offers its own download, documentation, and source code links. Development is funded through OpenCollective and GitHub Sponsors. If you only need the server jar, start with Purpur; the other two are optional add-ons for servers already running Purpur or Paper.

The three projects and what each one is

PurpurMC is an open source organization focused on Purpur, a configurable Minecraft server software with gameplay features, plus other software around the Minecraft modding/plugin ecosystem.

Project What it is Who it's for
Purpur Minecraft server software based on Paper Server owners who want maximum configurability
PurpurExtras A plugin for Purpur and Paper servers Servers that want extra features kept out of the main jar
PurpurPacks A set of datapacks Worlds that need additional features via datapacks

Purpur supports plugins designed for the Bukkit, Spigot, and Paper APIs, so existing plugin setups carry over. Its stated focus is providing as much configurability as possible so server owners can customize the server to their liking.

PurpurExtras exists because some features were deemed easier to implement and maintain as a separate plugin rather than inside Purpur itself. PurpurPacks works at the datapack level instead, adding features to your Minecraft world.

Where to get each one

Every project on the site exposes the same three entry points: Download, Read the docs, and See source code.

  • Purpur — use the Download link for the server software, the docs for configuration and setup, and the source code link if you want to inspect or build it.
  • PurpurExtras — download the plugin, read its docs for installation and feature behavior, and view its source.
  • PurpurPacks — download the datapacks, read the docs for what each pack changes, and view the source.

A practical order of operations: download and set up Purpur first, confirm your plugins load, then add PurpurExtras or PurpurPacks only if you actually need the extra features. Installing all three at once makes it harder to tell which component caused a problem.

Supporting development

Purpur is described as driven by free time and passion, and donations go toward keeping development, the API, and build servers online. Two options are listed:

  • OpenCollective
  • GitHub Sponsors

Both are reached from the support section of the site. There is no indication on the page of paid tiers, pricing, or account requirements for downloading or using the software — the site presents downloads, docs, and source as openly available, and support as voluntary.

Joining the community

The site also points to a Discord server, which is the place to go for questions that the documentation doesn't answer, or to follow development. If you're deciding between Purpur and Paper, the docs and source links are the fastest way to see exactly which configuration options Purpur adds on top of the Paper base.
