Where to Download PyDy and Find Its Documentation
Updated
PyDy's official site, pydy.org, provides two direct entry points: a Download section with latest and development versions, and a Documentation section. Both are listed in the site's overview navigation, alongside tutorials and examples. The site itself does not host the files or docs inline — it links out to them.
Download PyDy
The site's Download section offers two options:
| Option | What it is |
|---|---|
| Latest Version | The current stable release |
| Development Version | The in-progress code |
The most recent release noted on the site is PyDy 0.3.1, announced January 6, 2016. The prior release, 0.3.0, was announced June 18, 2015. If you need a stable, documented version, start with the latest release rather than the development version.
Find the Documentation
The Documentation link in the site overview leads to the project's reference material. The site also lists a Beginner's Tutorial under its Commands section, which is the natural starting point if you are new to the toolset.
Two worked examples are listed for readers who want to see the workflow in action:
- A Chaotic Pendulum Example
- A Double Pendulum Example
What You Are Actually Installing
PyDy is described as both a workflow and a set of software packages. The core is the SymPy mechanics package, which generates symbolic equations of motion for complex multibody systems. PyDy extends that symbolic output into the numerical domain for simulation, analysis, and visualization.
It builds on the standard scientific Python stack: NumPy, SciPy, IPython, matplotlib, Cython, and Theano. Expect those as dependencies rather than a standalone binary.
Other Site Sections Worth Knowing
- History — background on the project
- Google Summer of Code — the project's GSoC participation, with posts from 2014 and 2015
- Recent Posts / Archives — release announcements and event notes, most recently covering 2016
The site is built with Sphinx and carries a copyright range of 2009–2026, so the page structure has been stable even though the newest release announcement dates to 2016.
