Where to Download Schism Tracker for Your Platform

Updated

Download Schism Tracker from the Downloads section of schismtracker.org. The latest release listed there is 20260524, and it covers Windows (32-bit, 64-bit, and ARM builds), macOS, Linux, Wii, Wii U, XBOX, and Mac OS 9, plus a source tarball for building it yourself. If your platform isn't in that list, the source code is the practical fallback, since Schism Tracker is built on SDL and is intended to compile on most GCC-supported architectures.

Available downloads

Platform Package listed
Windows 32-bit, 64-bit, 32-bit ARM, 64-bit ARM
macOS Universal (Apple Silicon, Intel 64-bit, PowerPC)
Linux x86_64
Wii Yes
Wii U Yes
XBOX Yes
Mac OS 9 PowerPC
Source tar.gz

The macOS build is a single universal binary, so you don't need to pick between Apple Silicon and Intel. On Windows, choose the build that matches both your CPU architecture and your OS bitness — the ARM builds are for ARM-based Windows devices, not for standard x86 machines.

How to get it

  1. Go to schismtracker.org and find the Downloads area.
  2. Pick the entry matching your platform from the table above.
  3. Download the file and run or extract it according to your platform's normal practice.
  4. Launch the program and confirm it opens — that's your verification that the right build was chosen.

If no prebuilt package fits your system, download the source code (tar.gz) and build it yourself. The project also publishes build notes for Windows, OS X, and Linux, which are worth reading before you start compiling.

Getting the newest code

Prebuilt releases lag behind development. If you want the current source instead of the latest release, clone the repository:

git clone https://github.com/schismtracker/schismtracker

You can also browse the repository in a web browser to inspect the source tree and change logs.

Where to ask for help

  • IRC: join #schism on Libera.Chat with your usual IRC client.
  • Discord: the #schismtracker channel in TARC, described as the de facto channel for the project.
  • Bugs and feature requests: post them on the issue tracker.

What to keep in mind

Schism Tracker is a free and open-source reimplementation of Impulse Tracker, built on a heavily modified ModPlug engine with bugfixes and changes aimed at improving IT playback. The original Impulse Tracker was limited to i386 systems running MS-DOS; Schism Tracker runs on almost any platform SDL supports and has been successfully built for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, FreeBSD, OpenBSD, AmigaOS, BeOS, and even the Wii. It will most likely build on any architecture GCC supports (alpha, m68k, arm, and so on), though it may not be as well optimized on many of those systems.

That breadth is the reason the download list looks the way it does: pick the closest match to your hardware, and fall back to source if nothing fits.
