Where to Find AA Literature and General Information on SFV AA

Updated

SFV AA (sfvaa.org) provides two direct paths: the Browse Literature section for AA literature, and the What Is AA? page for learning about the program itself. Both are reachable from the homepage, and the Central Office also answers questions by phone or email if you can't find what you need.

Finding AA literature

On the homepage, look for the "Looking For Literature?" heading and select Browse Literature. This takes you to the literature resources offered by the San Fernando Valley Alcoholics Anonymous Central Office.

The Central Office's stated mission is to support carrying the message of Alcoholics Anonymous by providing information, literature and other services to A.A. members, groups, and others throughout the San Fernando Valley area and surrounding communities. In practice, that means literature access isn't limited to current members — groups and the general public are also served.

If you need a specific item and don't see it in the online section, contact the office directly rather than assuming it's unavailable:

  • Phone: 818-988-3001 (24-hour helpline, available day or night)
  • Email: [email protected] (typically answered within a day)
  • Address: 16134 Sherman Way, Van Nuys, CA 91406

Learning about AA

For general information about the program, use the "Want to Learn More About AA?" section and select What Is AA?. This page explains what Alcoholics Anonymous is and how it works.

The site also offers a "Take the 20 Questions" link — a self-assessment drawn from AA's classic "20 Questions" pamphlet. The site is explicit about how to read the result: "Only you can decide whether you want to give Alcoholics Anonymous a try – whether you think it can help you." The questions are a prompt for reflection, not a diagnosis.

If you can't find something

The homepage closes with a direct invitation: "Please reach out to us with any and all questions. We are here to support you!" Messages sent through the site's contact form are described as anonymous and confidential. The 24-hour helpline is the fastest option if your question is urgent or you'd rather talk to someone than browse.

One practical note: the site separates finding a meeting from finding literature, so if you land on the meetings search and actually want pamphlets or books, return to the homepage and use the literature link instead of searching within the meeting tool.
