Where to Find Admission and Application Information on the IISc Website
Updated
Prospective students should go to the Prospective Students section of iisc.ac.in. From there, the two main pages are Why IISc (for orientation on the institute) and Apply to IISc (for the application itself). The same section also links to Announcements and an International Students overview, which are the entry points for deadline news and for applicants applying from outside India.
The main path: Prospective Students
The IISc homepage navigation includes a Prospective Students heading with three visible items:
| Page | What it is for |
|---|---|
| Why IISc | Background on the institute before you apply |
| Apply to IISc | The application entry point |
| Announcements | Notices that may affect timing or requirements |
If you already know you want to apply, Apply to IISc is the page to open first. If you are still deciding, start with Why IISc, then move to the application page.
If you are applying from outside India
The Prospective Students area also lists International Students → Overview. Use this branch rather than the general application page when your prior degree or nationality makes you an international applicant, since the overview is the page the institute has set up for that group.
Related pages worth knowing about
- Current Students contains the Fee Structure page and the Students Affairs Committee entry. These are written for enrolled students, but the fee page is the place to check costs once you have an offer; the site does not publish pricing on the admissions pages themselves.
- Student Corner holds practical reference material such as Medium of instruction in IISc, CGPA to Percentage Conversion, and official transcript information. These matter after admission, not during application.
- Contact → Telephone Directory is the route to a specific office if a question is not answered on the admissions pages.
Common sticking points
- Do not look for admissions under "Academics" or "Research" first. The site organizes admissions under the Prospective Students heading, so searching the research pages wastes time.
- Announcements is a moving page. Check it close to any deadline rather than relying on a description of the process from an older source.
- The site does not state that application or access is free. No pricing or login terms appear on the pages described here, so confirm any fee or account requirement on the Apply to IISc page itself.
- International applicants should not assume the domestic instructions apply. Follow the International Students overview where it differs.
In short: one section, two core pages — Why IISc to decide, Apply to IISc to act — with Announcements and International Students as the supporting entries.
