Where to Find Cayman Islands Angling Club Tournaments and Events
Updated
The Cayman Islands Angling Club lists its tournaments and events on fishcayman.com, in the Events section of the main navigation and in the Fishing Cayman Islands Calendar block on the home page. The home page also carries a Latest News & Updates feed where individual tournament posts include dates, entry fees, and registration times. For confirmation or questions, the club lists [email protected] and (345) 945-3131 / 916-6940.
Where the information sits on the site
The site's navigation is: Home, About, Events, News, Gallery, Membership, Contact. Two of these do the work for event planning:
- Events — the primary listing of what's coming up.
- News — longer posts on individual tournaments, often with flyers, results, and registration logistics.
The home page repeats this in summary form through the Fishing Cayman Islands Calendar (upcoming events) and the Latest News & Updates feed, so a quick scan of the home page tells you whether anything is imminent before you click through.
Tournaments named on the site
These are the events the club's own pages describe. Treat the dates below as what the site states, not as a current schedule — always re-check the Events page before making travel or boat plans.
| Tournament | What the site says |
|---|---|
| Cayman Islands International Fishing Tournament (CIIFT) | Described as the Islands' premier sportfishing experience for over 25 years; the post gives April 25 – May 2, 2023 |
| BK Big Fish | Sixth annual Burger King–supported tournament in 2023; Burger King is described as a longtime supporter of the club and local tournaments |
| Hoos Who Shootout | Registration Friday February 3rd, 5:30–7:30 pm at George Town Yacht Club and Captains Table in Cayman Brac; entry fee CI $250 per boat, no maximum number of anglers |
The home page also displays event dates in its banner area — "24-25 October, 2026" and "November 16 & 17, 2024" — which is a reminder that the site mixes forward-looking and past event material. Check which year a listing belongs to before you act on it.
How to use the site to plan
- Open fishcayman.com and go to Events for the current list.
- Cross-check News for the full post on any tournament you're considering — that's where entry fees, registration windows, and venues appear, as in the Hoos Who Shootout example.
- Note the venue split: registration has been held at both George Town Yacht Club (Grand Cayman) and Captains Table (Cayman Brac), so confirm which island applies to your event.
- If a detail is missing or the dates look stale, contact the club directly at [email protected] or (345) 945-3131 / 916-6940 rather than assuming.
What the club says about the fishing itself
Useful context if you're choosing an event by target species: the club states that good catches happen as close as a quarter mile offshore all three Cayman Islands, where the ocean floor drops off sharply and creates a natural thoroughfare for large migratory pelagic species. Blue marlin, yellowfin tuna, wahoo, dolphin (dorado), and barracuda are described as year-round catches, with occasional white marlin and very rare Atlantic sailfish and Atlantic long-billed spearfish.
Common snags
- Old posts read as current. Tournament articles carry their original years; the home page banner shows more than one date. Verify the year on every listing.
- Registration is not the same as the event date. The Hoos Who Shootout post gives a Friday evening registration slot separate from the fishing days.
- Two islands, two venues. Don't assume Grand Cayman for every event.
- No pricing beyond what's posted. The site states a CI $250 per boat entry fee for the Hoos Who Shootout; it does not publish a general fee schedule, so ask the club for anything else.
